Dead Space 3 PC Version Offers Extensive Graphics Settings, Contrary To Early Reports

February 5, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

The PC version of Dead Space 3 offers almost every option you could ever hope for in a PC port.

Word got out last week when a few publications reported their experiences of Dead Space 3 prior to its launch tomorrow, stating that the PC version of the game was heavily crippled in contrast to other ports designed for the PC.

Some reports even went so far as to suggest that the game would be a straight port from consoles, without any of the features commonly found on PC versions, bringing to mind the Dark Souls port for the PC, which capped the game's framerate to 30 frames per second.

That appears not to be the case in a new video by ChristopherOdd, which showcases the settings available to the PC version of Dead Space 3. It reveals that the game supports resolutions up to 2560×1440, contrary to rumors that the game would be capped at 720 or 1080p like the console versions.

Also available are options for V-sync, and windowed and windowed full screen display modes. The game offers extensive graphical customization, with 'low' to 'very high' presets, as well as advanced settings that allow you to enable or disable bloom, glow, depth of field, SSAO, screen space reflections, blur, post processing, motion blur, flares, and distortion. You can also customize light quality, lighting accumulation, decals, anti-aliasing with support for SMAA, shader quality, shadow quality, and finally support for 16x anisotropic filtering.

In essence, Dead Space 3 offers the same options as the PC version of Borderlands 2 and Far Cry 3. It goes without saying that the game's lack of support for the PC has been greatly exaggerated.
