If you’ve been ardently stalking the AgeOfEmpires Twitter account, then you’ll likely be aware of the big news that’s set to shake up the Gamescom arena big time. Yes, this is not a hoax, Age of Empires IV has just been announced, and if you’re not convinced by these words alone, please indulge in the Windows cinematic trailer below:
Age of Empires is one of the most popular RTS franchises, with a history spanning more than 20 years. In an age of reboots, it’s not altogether surprising that Relic Entertainment chose 2017 as the year to make a comeback, but nevertheless, this still comes as an exciting proposition for fans who’ve been waiting for a fourth installment ever since Age of Empires III first launched in 2005.
Relic Entertainment will be partnering with Microsoft to develop Age of Empires IV, and promises to “fuse historical context with deep strategic gameplay” to bring AoE back to the pinnacle of RTS games.
In other AoE news, Age of Empires: Definitive Edition was revealed at E3 as a repackaged version of the 1997 classic. Earlier today, Windows confirmed it would be releasing for PC on October 19, and kept the euphoria going with the subsequent announcement of AoE II and AoE III definitive editions.
There’s no release date just yet for Age of Empires IV, which will naturally make PC its home.
