We just have to accept that Wonder Weapons are a fact of life in each new Call of Duty: Zombies map, and Rave in the Redwoods includes the Vlad crossbow. Because that’s just how things work, the basic version of the Vlad is pretty lame — it isn’t until you get one of the four elemental upgrades that this cold turkey becomes something you’ll really want to use.
Here, we’ll cover how to unlock all four types of elemental upgrades. This is going to be as simple and straightforward as possible, with only the relevant details listed below. Surviving for long on Rave in the Redwoods is an entirely different beast, and it’s a lot easier to unlock these upgrades with a group of friends watching your back. With that said, it’s also possible to complete solo. Like everything in this Infinite Warfare add-on, you’ll never need a team to complete a step.

All Crossbow Upgrades Guide
There are four elemental upgrades for the Vlad crossbow, but if you haven’t collected the Vlad crossbow yet, here’s a quick primer. The Vlad is locked behind three chains in a cabinet, in the Spawn Lodge first floor area.
- How to Unlock the Vlad:
- Collect the bucket of sausages near the Turtle Island interior restroom, next to the projector / Kevin Smith boom box.
- Feed the three mounted deer heads in Rave Mode. After throwing a sausage to the deer head, shoot it and collect the floating rune.
- Deer Head #1: Spawn Lodge
- Deer Head #2: Mess Hall
- Deer Head #3: Camp Owl (Inside a cabin)
- Complete all three deer heads, then return to the Vlad cabinet in the first floor of the Spawn Lodge. Now you can collect as many as you need.
Step #1: Collecting the Statues
Now that you have the Vlad, it’s time to start upgrading. You’ll need to collect four hidden statues (Deer, Eagle, Owl, Wolf) that spawn in random locations across the map — there are 19possible locations, so let’s cover all the spots. If you can’t find four statues, make sure to check all of these locations.
- Picnic table to the right of the “Camp Wolf” sign.
- On the cabin balcony across from the Racing Stripes machine.
- On the staircase landing behind Bang Bang in the Old Mines.
- Outside the Mess Hall, look on the ground near a bench by the Camp Cabins debris door.
- In the Recreation Area, look in the trailer with the open back. Look near the bed on the end table covered with beer bottles beneath the weapon buy wall.
- On the docks in the Bear Lake area, look in the corner where white tables are pushed into the corner. One white tables has an overturned table on top with a statue location.
- Behind the Slappy Taffy machine on the Bear Lake beach, look under the leaning canoe.
- In the Adventure Course. Up the first set of stairs as you enter from the spawn room direction.
- On the wooden platform near the single wall section at the base of the climbing wall in the Adventurer Course area.
Each statue has an associated elemental upgrade. You only need to collect and use the statue you want to unlock the proper element.
Step #2: The Statue Ritual
Next, place one (or all) of the statues on slots in the Recreational Area.
- Around the central statue, there’s a series of speakers with noticeable slots on top. Interact with the empty slots to place one or all of the statues. Once the statues are placed, you’ll need to lure zombies toward the statues and get kills.
- If the zombies pop into a strange fire-effect, you’ll know the souls are being collected. Keep earning kills (we don’t know exactly how many) until you’re allowed to re-collect the small animal statue.
Once you’ve finished filling the small statue with zombie souls, it’s time to deliver that statue to the identical, larger statue on the map.
Step #3: The Statue Ritual – Part 2
There are four large animal statue types (Deer, Eagle, Owl, Wolf) — place the soul-infused tiny version of the corresponding statue at the larger statue.
- Larger Animal Statue Locations:
- Deer: Bear Lake Docks
- Eagle: Thunderbird Ampitheatre
- Owl: Camp Cabins, Camp Owl
- Wolf: Camp Cabins, Camp Wolf
Find the larger corresponding statue (any of them will work!) and place the tiny soul-infused statue near it to begin another soul-collecting mission. This time, you’ll have to use the Vlad crossbow to earn zombie kills. That’s the only way to charge the statue for part 2.
Once it is fully soul-charged, re-collect the tiny statue to automatically get the upgraded crossbow.
- Animal Statue Upgrades:
- Deer: Whirlwind EF5
- Eagle: Trap-O-Matic Upgrade (Akimbo, shoot the ground to leave laser traps.)
- Owl: Acid Rain Upgrade
- Wolf: Ben Franklin Upgrade
