Forza Horizon 3: PSA – New Patch Causing Corrupt Save Files On PC

January 4, 2017 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Downloading the PC patch for Forza Horizon 3 ending in .37.2 may corrupt new save files. Here’s how to avoid losing your progress.

A patch for Forza Horizon 3 on PC, if downloaded and launched, will create corrupt save files after starting a new game. The news was revealed in a post on the Forza Motorsport forums about the recent release of the January Car Pack download for PC players only. The patch, and the ensuring corruption issues, do not effect the Xbox One version of Forza Horizon 3.

The problem is caused by downloading the patch ending in .37.2 — files are only corrupted after launching and starting a new game, creating new save files that are corrupt. As prescribed by the Forza Community Team, you can still launch Forza Horizon 3 without causing issues. To check your version, launch Forza Horizon 3 and look at the launch screen. The version number is located there.

Check your version number: The patch ending in .37.2 is the corrupted patch. Uninstall Forza Horizon 3 and reinstall, then download the patch ending in .35.2 — this is the clean patch and current version available to download.

As the post continues, as long as you do not create a new save file with version .37.2 installed and have previous save file, you will be able to continue playing as normal with version .35.2.

Over the holiday season, Forza Horizon 3 updated with a festive new DLC location, and the PC version received performance boosts — after numerous complaints from the online community that the open-world racer didn’t run as smoothly on the PC as the Xbox One.

Performance issues are a common problem, but full-blown corruption patches? That kind of issue doesn’t happen often. Thankfully, the correct version of Forza Horizon 3 is now the only version available to download officially. If you missed the update on January 3rd, you should be safe to start downloading.
