Telltale’s point and click adventures have become a staple in the gaming community in the past couple years. They have been around for quite some time as a development team, but their true breakout was due to their phenomenal Walking Dead series. Now their back at it with the third season of the Walking Dead franchise and it looks like they might have truly hit it out of the park with this one.
Telltale has made plenty of games with a lot of different properties, which were just as good; for example the funny tale of Rhys and Fiona from Tales of from Borderlands to their more recent serious adventure with the caped crusader, Batman.
However, season one of Walking Dead brought gamers plenty of tense moments, shocking reveals, and plenty of sad deaths that seemingly blows away other series in comparison. The New Frontier is taking what gamers loved about the first two seasons of Telltale’s Walking Dead series and bringing it to the next level.
If you have never played Telltale’s Walking Dead series or are a Walking Dead veteran, but have yet picked up The New Frontier; here are the top 5 reasons why you must purchase it right now!
1. A Brand New New Story
The first thing to mention is that Walking Dead: New Frontier is a new story. Players will play as Javier, a young Spanish-oriented man who is surviving the apocalypse with his family — his brothers’ two kids and step wife. Episode one lays a lot of groundwork for the new characters; who they are, how they came to be, and much more.
This is a great follow-up season in comparison to its predecessors. Fans of the series might be disappointed that they won’t be primarily playing as Clementine, a main character from the previous titles, however, the way Telltale sets up its third season is great due to it being grounded in the same universe as season one and two.
2. Returning Characters
If you manage to not like Javier at all, which is extremely unlikely, fans will be excited to hear that characters from previous seasons will make a return — including fan-favorite Clementine. Announced at E3 2016, Clem will be an older, more matured survivor. She has been through a lot and it shows.

As you only play as her in flashbacks it is still a cool nod to veterans of the series. Without spoiling any of the game, I will just leave it at that.
3. Relatable Cast
One of the biggest changes added to Walking Dead: New Frontier is its new cast. Fans of the series were left off with such a cliffhanger from season two that some didn’t know if we would ever see the series return. However, after a few caveats, a new story was formed and here we are.
Telltale decided to open up the New Frontier with a two-part opening, allowing players to get their hands on the first two episodes of the five-part series; and oh boy did it help. Players are introduced to a mix of characters which all have different characteristics.
After the opening credits, the story really starts to form and players will start to understand the situation Javier and his family are in. It won’t take too long to start feeling a connection with these characters and that helps push the narrative very effective.
4. Intense Choices Affect
One of the pinnacle points of the Walking Dead is about making decisions on the fly. These decisions are vital to your survival so players must act quickly. One wrong saying, one wrong move, one wrong anything and the situation can get out of hand very quickly.
Gamers should be happy to hear that Telltale didn’t disappoint and came through with some very intense moments. The Walking Dead universe is not a safe place and the minute you start thinking it is — BOOM! Something goes awry and players must adapt quickly if they intend on keeping the situation under control.
The New Frontier definitely brings the intensity to the next level.
5. Shocking Moments
The Walking Dead franchise, regardless the medium — TV Show, Comic, or Video Game, always manages to keep viewers at the edge of their seat. And the New Frontier manages to keep true to that as it is chock full of big shocking moments.
Both Walking Dead season one and two of the Telltale series were filled with moments that left players with their mouths wide open and their stomach feeling queasy. Perhaps its due to the fact The Walking Dead franchise is such a great universe for storytelling.
Moment to moment gameplay works so well with the Walking Dead series; one mistake, one wrong action could lead players down a road that they wished they never went down.
And that right there is what the Walking Dead strives the best at.
