How to Complete the “Sympathy for the Living” Quest in Starfield: Shatted Space

The “Sympathy for the Living” Quest can be started by going to the Va’runn Depository in the heart of Darza City. Once inside, talk to the NPC named Nalada Bradi. She will task you with trying to learn about the whereabouts of her missing brother, Quasim, who was sent to the Deep Gorge Refinery to try and get the facility back online.

The Deep Gorge Refinery is found to the southeast of Darza City. Upon arriving you will quickly learn that the place has been overtaken by Va’runn Zealots. When you enter the base, be prepared to fight.

Once inside, you can either try to enter through a Master lock door near the entrance to use the computer inside to reprogram some of the base’s robots or take one of the other paths to reach the workshop that has several Zealots. Defeat them and then hop done to the first floor of the workshop. Look for a door doorway that leads to a room with a nearby staircase.

Go all the way down to the bottom of the stairs and then go down the long hallway to find another set of stairs that is next to a giant drill. Defeat the Zealots in this area and loot the Refinery Access Card off one of their bodies. At the bottom of the stairs, look to the right to see a door that leads to a secret elevator that will bring you an underground lab the Zealots are using for experimentation.

Go to the right and go down the hallway until you reach a small office with a powered-off computer. Pick up the Emergency Power Cell on the desk to the right of the computer and put it into the  Power Receptacle on the left of the computer. Hite the power switch next to the  Power Receptacle to turn the computer back on. Read the logs on the computer to learn about the Zealot’s Super Soldier Project that they are testing on prisoners. Once you’re done, leave the office, go down the stairs, and interact with the Cell Block Terminal. The logs here will let you know that Quasim should be held in Cell #2.

Go to the next room to find the prison block. Look for the cell labeled “C-02.” From this cell is a long bloodstain that makes its way out of the cellblock and down into the Medical Laboratory.

Head into the lab and defeat any robots that attack you. Follow the blood to the Security 2 room. There are 3 Power Receptacles here and you will need to find 3 Emergency Power Cells. The first one is in the Autopsy room. Come out of the Security 2 door and turn right and you’ll see Autopsy. Go inside, turn left, and you’ll find the Emergency Power Cell on a table.

Go to the left of the blood trail at the location where it turns right to find the elevator shaft that leads to Storage. Drop down on top of the elevator and into the open hatch to reach the storeroom. The Emergency Power Cell is on a shelf at the back wall of the room.

Climb back up to the Storage door and go to the left to find the Research 04 room. Go inside and go up the stairs to the Research 07 room. On the ground is the Emergency Power Cell.

With all the Cells acquired, return to Security 2, put them all into  Power Receptacles, and then press the power switch. This will unlock Lab 02 and allow you to continue following the blood trail.

Go into Lab 02 and boost up to the floor above. Follow the hall into Electrical. Here you will be attacked by a Redeemed enemy who is actually Quasim, a victim of the Zealot’s experiments. You are forced to kill him. Make sure you take the Message to Nalada item off his body.

Return to Nadala. You can either lie to her and say Quasim couldn’t be found or break the bad news to her. The only difference is dialogue. Once your dialogue with Nadala is finished, the “Sympathy for the Living” Quest will be completed. You will get Credits, 200 EXP, and Nadala will give you 30% off in her shop.
