Beating Hades 2 and finally clapping Chronos is no easy feat. The journey to Chronos is no joke, and the big man himself makes everything that comes before him laughable. Ultimately, you can’t defeat Chronos properly in Early Access, but you can give him a good hiding and get a fancy popup telling you that you did well.
Unfortunately, you just beat Hades at its easiest. That’s right, your first successful run of Hades 2 is bookended by a whole new system that is designed to truly unlock the full might of the game’s difficulty. This is the Oath Of The Unseen, and it’s rather mean to say the least.
Note: Do be aware that Hades 2 is still in Early Access, so anything and everything is subject to change.

How To Unlock The Oath Of The Unseen In Hades 2
The Oath Of The Unseen allows you to add special modifiers to your runs that make the game much harder. We will get into it more in a bit, but the Oath ramps up the difficulty drastically and rewards you handsomely if you succeed regardless.
Unlocking the Oath Of The Unseen is fairly straightforward (a rarity in Hades 2), although it is also incredibly difficult. All you have to do is kill Chronos – how hard can that be? Very. It’s very hard. To get to Chronos you have to conquer Erebus, Oceanus, The Fields Of Mourning, and Tartarus. You might even get a jaunt through Asphodel if you are (un)lucky.
Each area is more difficult than the last, and of course, you need to defeat each boss that blocks your path. That being Hecate, Scylla, Cerberus, and finally, Chronos. We will have dedicated guides to all of these bosses shortly, so if you need help, check them out.
Defeating Chronos (both phases) lets you briefly explore the Throne Room before abruptly ending your run once you head into Zagreus’s old room. Upon returning to the Crossroads and visiting the Training Grounds, a mysterious scroll will be waiting for you. This is the Oath Of The Unseen.
Unlike nearly every other unlockable in Hades 2, the Oath does not require an Incantation to summon. It appears automatically once you have proven yourself worthy.
It is important to note that you will NOT unlock the Oath if you go the surface route despite the game still rewarding you with a victory. You MUST defeat Chronos, which means you have to go through the Underworld route.
How Do Testaments Work
Testaments are challenges you must complete. These can be seen on the left of the screen and are shown as boss portraits with weapons next to them. There’s also a number which indicates the required Fear. To complete a Testament you need to equip the weapon of the boss you want to kill and have a Fear level high enough to activate the Testament. After that, start your run and kill that boss. Boom, you are done and the reward is yours.
The catch is that pesky Fear level. Fear is generated by activating Vows. Those are the options on the right hand of the menu. These modify the game’s difficulty in a variety of ways, with each option allowing you to intensify the effect for even more Fear. We highly recommend you use the bare minimum amount of fear to activate a Testament as there is no reward for going overboard, and you are simply making the game more difficult.
Rewards For Completing Testaments In Hades 2
Once you complete a Testament you will be rewarded with the incredibly powerful Nightmare material. This can only be found using Testaments and it allows you to upgrade your Aspects at the Training Grounds which in turn makes your weapons more powerful. A mighty reward that will help you grow in power to more effectively clear Testaments and murder Chronos (or Eris) over and over again.
That’s all we have on Hades 2 for now. Be sure to check back for more content, guides, tips, and tricks.
