Hades 2 is full of memorable (and interesting) characters. Interacting with mythical deities and titans from Greek Mythology is a joy – even if some of those chaps are a bit on the mean side (look at you, Nemesis). Ultimately, the vast majority of the people you will encounter are going to help you in one way or another…they might just need some persuading first.
The creator of existence and everything within it is one such character. Of course, I am talking about the elusive Chaos. Chaos is a guy who wants to talk and be listened to but rarely conversed with. Heck, just going to see the guy requires a blood sacrifice, which is kinda metal. Despite his cold demeanour, however, Chaos is pivotal to several key unlockables in Hades 2 – Chaos Trials being one of them.
Note: Do be aware that Hades 2 is still in Early Access, so anything and everything is subject to change.

How To Unlock Chaos Trials In Hades 2
To unlock Chaos Trials, you are going to have to meet with Chaos. A lot. You need to get your hands on the Abyssal Night Incantation, cast it at the Cauldron, and activate the Pitch Black Stone in the Training Grounds. It sounds simple enough, but there’s a catch – a pretty darn big one at that.
I am not going to beat around the bush here, I have no idea what triggers Chaos to give you this incantation. A lot of Hades 2 is mysteriously ambiguous. A bunch of stuff happens in the background based on your progression, clearly, I just don’t know what specific combination of THINGS triggers this Incantation.
What I CAN do, however, is give you a rough idea of what I had unlocked before Chaos handing over the goods:
- Unlocked all 5 Nocturnal Arms
- Unlocked Weapon Aspects
- Unlocked all 4 Tools
- Unlocked the Surface
- Unlocked the ability to survive on the surface
- Reached the Rift of Thessaly
- Gave Chaos a Nectar and received the Transcendent Embryo
- Fought Chronos multiple times
- Got to Chronos’s Second Form multiple times
- Talked To Chaos at every opportunity given to me
Do all of that, and you should be good to go. You likely won’t need to do ALL of that, but it’s a start.
Once you have your hands on the Abyssal Night Incantation, head to the Cauldron, throw in:
- 2 Fate Fabric
- 2 Pearls
- 2 Moly
- 2 Nightshade
This will unlock the Pitch Black Stone at the Training Ground, and by extension, Chaos Trials.
We have a guide that covers how to get every resource in the game, so check that out if you need help getting any of the materials required for the Incantation.
What Are Chaos Trials
The game makes a big deal out of Chaos Trials and their impact on the plot. Like with clapping Chronos in the Underworld, and helping Olympus on the surface, completing Chaos Trials is heavily implied to be an alternate route to victory over Chronos. Chaos might be powerful, but he’s mostly locked to the Abyss.
Chaos Trials allow Chaos to reach into sub-realities, warp them to his will, and then tweak actual reality in an attempt to aid you on your journey. It all sounds kinda wild, and narratively, it’s awesome. In practice, Chaos Trials are runs that have unique modifiers. The first Trial you unlock asks you to fight through Erebus whilst having 1000 HP and MP. Not too difficult, but very fun.
Chaos Trials reward you with powerful resources used to upgrade your Nocturnal Arms – something you should be doing in your spare time. They are also a lot of fun, so dabble with them, get rewarded, and distort creation itself for the good of man/god/titan-kind. Maybe.
That’s all we have on Chaos Trials for now. Be sure to check out our other guides for more tips and tricks on Hades 2.
