Lyney finally made the Mono-Pyro dream team possible. As the first 5-Star of Fontaine in Genshin Impact, Lyney does not disappoint. While his attacks are flashy, his damage is nothing to scoff at. He specializes in AoE Pyro DMG and off-field Pyro application. However, he’s a fragile character due to his constant HP loss. Also, Lyney does not do well with Elemental Reactions.

Despite these drawbacks, Lyney’s damage more than makes up for the lack of reactionary damage. His Ascension stat is CRIT Rate, cutting down on your need for CRIT Rate Weapons or Artifacts. Additionally, you won’t have to rely on keeping his Elemental Burst full because most of his damage actually comes from his Charged Attacks.
Best Position – Main Pyro DPS
Lyney’s Ascension stat is CRIT Rate which will cut down on your need for CRIT Rate Artifacts. Most of his damage comes from his Normal and Charged Attacks. When using his Charged Attack, Lyney will summon a Grin-Malkin Hat that taunts enemies and eventually explodes, dealing AoE Pyro DMG. This happens every time Lyney uses his Charged Attack. Any damage dealt by the Grin-Malkin Hat is scaled off of Lyney’s Normal Attack Talent.
The biggest downside to using Lyney is that, because of his Passive Talents, his reactionary damage is lackluster. However, his own damage output and ability to champion a Mono-Pyro team offset this. Truly, the only character you need to make Lyney amazing is Bennett. As long as you complete most of the Mega Meka Melee event, you’ll receive at least one Bennett.
Best Weapons
To even out his CRIT Rate, look for Bows with the CRIT DMG stat. ATK should be the second stat in mind, especially if the Bow has a Weapon Skill that boosts Normal or Charged Attacks.
5-Star – The First Great Magic
The First Great Magic is Lyney’s signature weapon and so far, it’s his best one. It increases CRIT DMG and Charged Attack DMG. For every party member with the same Elemental Type as the wielder, including the wielder themselves, the wielder receives one Gimmick stack. For every party member with a different Elemental Type from the wielder, they gain one Theatrics stack. Gimmick stacks will increase ATK while Theatrics stacks increase Movement SPD. Both Gimmick and Theatrics stacks have a max of 3 stacks.
Lyney’s Mono-Pyro team isn’t a true Mono-Pyro team, you only need two other Pyro characters to fully take advantage of Lyney’s Talents and the First Great Magic. At Refinement 1, the First Great Magic will increase Lyney’s ATK by 48%.
Thundering Pulse or Aqua Simulacra would be good substitutes since both increase CRIT DMG and boost Normal Attack stats in some way. Aqua Simulacra will help with Lyney’s personal healing. But if you’re running Bennett or another healer with Lyney, it won’t be necessary. Try both out and see which goes best with your team.
4-Star – Blackcliff Warbow
The Blackcliff Warbow is the only 4-Star Bow with a CRIT DMG stat. Additionally, after defeating an enemy, the wielder’s ATK increases by 12% for 30 seconds. This effect has a maximum of 3 stacks, with each stack’s duration considered independent of the others. The ATK increase depends on the Blackcliff’s Refinement level, but at R0, you can increase your ATK by up to 36%.
If you pay for the Battle Pass, the Scion of the Blazing Sun will be a better bow for Lyney. Though it increases CRIT Rate, it provides additional damage for every Charged Attack that hits an opponent. Lyney will have no problem triggering that effect.
Finally, the Hamayumi is the best free-to-play option. This is a craftable bow from Inazuma that provides additional attack buffs to Normal and Charged Attacks. If you keep Lyney’s Elemental Burst fully charged without using it, those damage buffs will increase by 100%.
3-Star – Messenger
The Messenger increases CRIT DMG by a percentage. When Aimed Shots hit an enemy’s weak spots, they will deal an additional 200% ATK DMG as CRIT DMG. This can only occur once every 10 seconds. If you’re having trouble evening out Lyney’s CRIT ratio, this should help you.
Sharpshooter’s Oath and Raven Bow should also be good for Lyney. Try the Raven Bow if you have Lyney on a Mono-Pyro or Vaporize team.
Best Artifacts
Focus on the offensive stats for Lyney – you want to increase his damage output as much as possible. Look for ATK, Pyro DMG Bonus, and CRIT DMG Main Stats. You’ll need CRIT DMG and ATK% for Sub Stats. If you like using Lyney’s Elemental Burst, add some Energy Recharge.
4PC Marechaussee Hunter
Overall, the Marechaussee Hunter is the best Artifact set for Lyney. At 2 pieces, it increases Normal and Charged Attack DMG by 15%. At 4 pieces, when the wielder’s HP increases or decreases, their CRIT Rate increases by 12% for 5 seconds. This has a max of 3 stacks. This set was basically made for Lyney, so take advantage of it.
4PC Crimson Witch of Flames
At 2 pieces, Crimson Witch of Flames increases Pyro DMG by 15%. At 4 pieces, it increases Overloaded, Burning, and Burgeon DMG by 40%. It increases Vaporize and Melt DMG by 15%. Using an Elemental Skill increases the 2-Piece Set effect by 50% for 10 seconds. This has a max of 3 stacks.
Use the 4-Piece Crimson Witch set if you’re using Lyney for Pyro reactions. The set’s effects will make up for Lyney’s reaction damage deficits, especially if you use a Burgeon team with Deepwood Memories and Gilded Dreams sets.
2PC Crimson Witch of Flames + 2PC Marechaussee Hunter
Use this setup if you’re having trouble getting the Artifacts you need! You’ll receive the 15% Normal and Charged Attack DMG and 15% Pyro DMG Bonus.
Best Teams
Lyney does best with two Pyro teammates. However, this restricts you to primarily Pyro DMG rather than Elemental Reaction DMG. If you like Reactions, try pairing Lyney with a Pyro partner and use your other two slots for triggering Reactions. If you do this, Lyney will act more like a Sub-DPS. Make sure at least one of your Reaction characters has good Elemental Mastery.
