One of the most impressive features of Baldur’s Gate 3 is its seamless cooperative multiplayer experience. Friends can team up and adventure together over the course of a titanically large and sprawling narrative – and they can even do it from the same couch. Such is the gravity of this feature, certain platforms are currently unable to launch.
All of that is exciting news – especially to long-time fans of the series and D&D in general. However, all of this jolly cooperation comes with questions: Does the game support cross-play? Heck, does it have cross-progression? This guide answers both those questions, and you may have mixed feelings by the end of the article.

Does Baldur’s Gate 3 Have Cross-Progression
Right off the bat, yes, Baldur’s Gate 3 has or will have, cross-progression. This means anyone who is playing on a PC can transfer all of these saved data to their PS5 (and in the future, Xbox) and continue their journey seamlessly. This feature is a Larian staple, and we are happy to see it return here.
Whilst the feature won’t be that impactful for some players, others, like ourselves, will be able to play downstairs on the couch during the day and then retreat to the comfort of our dungeons to play on PC once things get a bit too hectic for immersive play. In any case, the feature is very welcome and opens up a nice bit of freedom for how players can interact with their experience.
Does Baldur’s Gate 3 Have Cross-Play
Sadly, Larian Studios has confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 will not have cross-play. This is a bit of a blow to the community as it means friends with different setups and pieces of hardware won’t be able to play together. There has been no word on whether cross-play will come later down the line, but as of writing, it’s simply not a thing.
If this changes we will update this article accordingly, so keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, you can always hop onto the nearest couch and play split-screen.
That’s all we have for Baldur’s Gate 3 for now. Be sure to check out our other guides and lists for more Baldur’s Gate content.
