Dead Space Remake: How to Find Autopsy Location

January 30, 2023 by Peter Hunt Szpytek

Cut him open, what’s inside?

One of the big changes that EA Motive made for the Dead Space remake is the addition of side quests. Now, as the player explores the USG Ishimura, they aren’t just relegated to following the main story and can find plenty of optional side objectives that give them access to lore and additional story content as well as solid loot. One of the driving narrative threads in Dead Space is Isaac’s search for his girlfriend Nicole. As the player starts to find small threads of her presence on the ship, they’ll be given the side quest “Scientific Methods.”

After Nicole is first notified about the necromorph infection in the medical ward, she decides to do an autopsy of one of the monsters that the crew captured in engineering. You’ll be tasked with finding the location of the autopsy. Here’s everything you need to know about finding it.

How to Find the Autopsy Location in Engineering

To find the autopsy location, you’ll need to have gotten at least to the Dead Space remake’s third chapter, Course Correction. In the chapter, you’ll end up in the engineering wing of the ship and be tasked with getting power back to the engines, restarting the centrifuge, and turning on the engines manually. Between doing all of that, you’ll be able to find Nicole’s recording of her autopsy.

From the control room (the main section of the engine room that has the save station and shop) take the door on the right side into the preparation room. Travel through it and go through the door into the machine shop. Walk down the ramp and pick up the Ripper if this is your first time coming through the room. Once you’ve gotten the weapon, head across the room through the arch that has the “Masks On” poster at the top of it, being cautious of the necromorphs that will jump out to attack you.

On the other side of the room, you’ll find a workbench (use it if you need to upgrade your gear.) Head through the door into the calibration room and when you enter, Nicole’s autopsy recording will start playing. Make sure to loot the room and once the scene is over, you’ll be tasked with the next part of the Scientific Methods side quest: finding Kyne’s mining deck hideout.
