Fallout 4 Guide: Unlock Holiday Decorations

November 10, 2015 by Olga Lexell

There’s an in-game surprise, depending on what day it is.

It’s common for games to include little holiday-related events or surprises, like Halloween masks or candy. Fallout 4 is no exception. As Redditor /u/ply447 discovered, to unlock the secret holiday decorations, you need to get to the date of the holiday in the game – that means you need to fast forward to Halloween or Christmas. But how do you skip that much time?

In order to pass the time until a holiday, you can either sleep or sit and wait in a couch or chair. On the PS4, you can press the triangle button to set how long you want to wait. It’s an oddly poignant feature of the game, to allow you to wait in solitude in a post-apocalyptic wasteland until the holidays arrive.

Here’s a glimpse of Diamond City on Halloween (the bombs dropped on October 23rd, per Fallout canon):

And on Christmas:

There don’t seem to be any decorations for Thanksgiving. Since waiting does take up some time, no one has confirmed whether there are any decorations for New Year’s Eve or St. Patrick’s Day. If you make it that far, please let us know in the comments section.

For more simple Fallout 4 guides and tips, check out a few of our explainers: increasing inventory space, scrapping, changing your field of view, skipping the intro video, unlocking frame rate, which settings to turn on or off, companions, basic and advanced console commands, and disabling mouse acceleration.
