Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity continues to expand with the Wave 2: Guardian of Remembrance DLC. In a unique twist, only one of the new playable characters has been announced — Purah and Robbie are a pair of tinkering geniuses that combine into a single playable character. But, the Wave 2 DLC also includes a hidden bonus character, and the game doesn’t explain how to unlock them at all. If you want to get the new character, we’ve got a breakdown explaining exactly what you need to know in the full guide below.
The Wave 2 DLC includes totally new story stages, showing different maps 100 years in the past. There’s an emotional story, featuring the Champions, with new cutscenes and difficult new stages. If you purchase the Season Pass, you’ll also receive the Wave 1 DLC which adds new enemy types, weapons, or enter the battlefield with a playable Guardian. There’s even an additional Apocalyptic Difficulty to add even more overwhelming challenge to your favorite levels.

There’s a second unlockable character in DLC2 — the character is a bit of a mystery, and hasn’t been revealed officially. Even the method to unlock him isn’t clear. To unlock the character, you need to complete the third Memory Quest for EX Mission: Yiga Clan’s Retreat. In this mission, you’ll play as Master Kohga and lead the Yiga Clan in a retreat. You can swap to any other character you want when completing the mission.
The third Memory Quest is shown in your menu with “???” — so it isn’t clear exactly what you need to do. If you need help, here’s the step-by-step solution.
- Play EX Mission: The Yiga Clan’s Retreat, which unlocks as you progress through the DLC2 story.
- During the mission, a Yiga Blademaster will close a gate and stay behind to block the enemy advance. Next, Hollows will spawn and the same gate will open again.
- Rush back to the Yiga Blademaster’s position to rescue him — to complete the third Memory Quest, you need to complete the EX Mission without losing any allies. The Yiga Blademaster is by far the easiest to lose.
Later, Ganons will spawn and attack. Make sure you’re strong enough to defeat them quickly without losing any allies. If you haven’t lost any allies yet, Sooga will spawn and aid you.
- Complete EX Mission: The Yiga Clan’s Retreat after finishing the third Memory Quest to unlock Sooga as a permanent playable character.
And now Sooga is finally playable! We’ve all been waiting for Sooga to be playable — I was hoping he’d appear in the original version of the game, so its a thrill to finally get to play as the burly, dangerous right-hand man of the ninja master. This is one member of the Yiga Clan you don’t want to mess with.
