Giving Birth To The Eggplant Child [Spelunky 2]
The eggplant is the biggest source of mystery for the Spelunky community. Ever since a streamer discovered an insane secret alternate boss in the first Spelunky involving the eggplant and a transformed last boss head, we all knew something secret was waiting in Spelunky 2. And let’s just say the new eggplant secret is a handful.
Instead of just getting an Eggplant, you’ll now find a fully-formed Eggplant Child. Let’s back-up. The Eggplant is a secret item that only spawns when you place a Mystery Box / Present onto an Altar of Kali. So, you need a Present item, which is both rare and random, and you need to take this present with you until you find an Altar of Kali. That’s also random. Starting to see why this is so difficult?
Next, you need to take the Eggplant all the way down to the Easter Island head statues in the Ice Caves, which is even further than the original. Once you place the Eggplant onto a special purple altar, it will hatch into an Eggplant Child! Pretty nice — and that isn’t all. You’ll need to also complete the steps for the secret ending, reach the Sunken City secret level, and place the Eggplant Child onto a Mother statue to unlock the ancestral realm of Eggplant World! Wow!
You only have to complete the hardest challenges in one of the hardest games ever made without a weapon and while trying to keep an NPC alive. No wonder this secret took so long to find. It’s amazing that anyone found it at all.
