Animal Crossing: New Horizons – How To Earn Mermaid DIY Recipes & Find Pascal | Summer Update Guide

July 8, 2020 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Put those undersea hunting skills to good use! Here’s how to trade scallops for new DIY recipes.

The Summer Update didn’t just add swimming and wetsuits to Animal Crossing: New Horizons — there’s a whole load of new DIY recipes you can secretly unlock by visiting a returning character to the series. Pascal — the wise marine-themed otter will happily swap Scallops for DIY recipes and pearls. Why pearls? Because you’ll need pearls to craft these rare mermaid recipes!

You might not even realize Pascal is in the game if you aren’t swimming consistently. This guy trades in Scallops, so make sure to hold onto some while you’re deep-see diving. Scallops are his favored currency, and it’s easy to just trade these finds away or sell them for a quick buck. It’s much better to save them specifically for Pascal — just don’t bother giving him more than 1 a day.

Before you can find Pascal and start collecting mermaid DIY recipes, you’ll need a wetsuit! Here’s all the info you need to start swimming ASAP.

How To Find Pascal & Earn Mermaid DIY Recipes

Pascal is a new visitor that appears once per day in the deep sea outside your island. He’ll show up as you’re diving and offer to trade Scallops for DIY Recipes or Pearls. Scallops are the only sea creature he’ll trade with you, so make sure to keep an extra stock of them if you find any while searching the ocean.

His appearances are random, and he won’t appear until the following day after you’ve collected your first scallop. After you collect at least one scallop, you can expect to see him. When he offers to trade you, he’ll take all the scallops you’re holding — but you only need to trade 1. There is no difference between trading 1 or more scallops to Pascal.

  • Pascal will reward you with DIY Recipes, furniture, outfits, and Pearls in exchange for scallops.
    • Pascal trades the Mermaid Set, which requires pearls to craft many of the items.

The Mermaid Set is an all-new addition with the Summer Update, and includes 18 pieces: Mermaid Bed, Mermaid Chair, Mermaid Closet, Mermaid Dresser, Mermaid Flooring, Mermaid Lamp, Mermaid Rug, Mermaid Screen, Mermaid Shelf, Mermaid Sofa, Mermaid Table, Mermaid Vanity, Mermaid Wall, and Mermaid Wall Clock.

The Mermaid Set also has a few clothing items: Mermaid Fishy Dress, Mermaid Princess Dress, Mermaid Shoes, and Mermaid Tiara.

It’s a very Disney Princess set, so if that’s what you’re into, the only way to get them is to get your hands dirty sifting through the silt! Grab your wetsuit and start diving.
