Journey To The Savage Planet: How To Get The Bombegranate Stabilizer | Cragdaw Boss Guide

January 29, 2020 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Take on the mighty Cragdaw and unlock the second major area of the game with the ‘Kill It With Fire’ quest guide.’

It’s the Cragdaw!

The second major objective of Journey To The Savage Planet is all about getting the Bombegranate Stabilizer — a special upgrade that allows you to carry around Zelda bombs that blast through cracked walls. Bombs aren’t just handy for exploring new areas, they’ll also make fighting tough enemies way easier, because you can just bomb them instead of aiming for their tough-to-hit weakpoints.

The lengthy quest takes you through to the end of the Landing Site region, and brings you to the second massive area — the Itching Fields. You’ll have to climb a tall cliff and defeat a challenging boss before you can move on. Here, we’ll cover everything you need to know to acquire the Bombegranate Stabilizer and reach new heights of the strange planet you’re stranded on.

Climbing the Towering Crystals of Madness area.

Scan any of the Bombegranate plants to unlock the ‘Kill It With Fire‘ quest. You’ll find them all over the place — but you can always find them near the Meteor Crater teleporter.

Before you can begin the Bombegranate Stabilizer mission, you’ll need to acquire the Proton Tether. Once you do that, you’ll be able to climb the Towering Crystals of Madness, located near the Towering Crystals Teleporter. Continue up the cliffs — eventually, you’ll reach a tricky area that requires Grapple Seeds. Shoot the hanging containers to collect them, then throw the grapple seeds at the blue walls to create new grapple points.

Mt. Gzarfyn is up there!

At the top of the cliffs, you’ll reach the Cliffs of Mt. Gzarfyn. You’ll encounter armored pufferbirds here, so you’ll need to shatter their armor with bombegranates — if you really want to.

Use the grapple points to reach the top of the lava waterfall, and use grapple seeds to continue upstream of the magma flow. At the top, you’ll encounter the killer Cragdaw boss!

How To Beat The Cragdaw: You’ll encounter the Cragdaw in a volcano with tall rock platforms connected with grapple points. There are two vitality plants, so save those for later in the battle. I recommend getting a few orange goo upgrades and Nomad Pistol upgrades before fighting this guy.

When the battle begins, the boss will make three weak points appear. Shoot these three weak points — there are three sequences to the fight, and in the final sequence you’ll have to shoot down five.

The Cragdaw has two attacks. It launches a shockwave that goes either high or low. Duck under the high shockwaves, and double-jump over the low ones. The high waves seem to glow a slightly brighter orange. It also will launch a bomb from above that lands on whatever platform you’re standing on, creating a damage-over-time fire effect. Jump off and try to avoid that platform!

If you keep moving and learn how to avoid the Cragdaw’s shockwave attacks, you’ll win in no time.

You can’t miss this upgrade after defeating the big boss.

After defeating the boss, you’ll enter the Bombegranate Shrine. Extract the goo from the purple plants to create a gauntlet upgrade, allowing you to carry around bombegranates so they don’t explode. It’s very useful!

Now you can take bombegranates to cracked walls anywhere in the world, or use them against tough enemies with hard-to-hit weakpoints.
