There’s a new Pokémon in town, and you can get it way earlier by visiting a specific location in Pokémon Sword & Shield. During the January Nintendo Direct, two new massive expansions were announced for the Nintendo Switch Pokémon adventure, adding a combine 200~ new Pokémon to the game. They aren’t just bringing back old favorites, you’ll also find totally new Pokémon in the bunch.
And one of those Pokémon is hidden in Pokémon Sword & Shield. The Galarian Slowpoke can be caught right now — and he’s a unique little guy. This Slowpoke is Psychic type, with a yellow crown on his head and funny round ears. He isn’t the most impressive new Pokémon, but they’re still a worthy addition to your Pokedex. And they’re completely free, you don’t need the new Season Pass to unlock them. Follow the quick location guide below for all the details.

How To Get Galarian Slowpoke Early | ‘Isle of Armor’ New Pokémon Guide
To get this special Galarian Slowpoke, make sure you’ve downloaded the latest update for Pokémon Sword & Shield. The new Pokémon is available on both versions. Once you’ve downloaded and installed the update, you can hop into the game to claim your Slowpoke.
Take the train (or flying taxi) to Wedgehurst Station and talk to the colorfully dressed training talking to the station agent. That initiates a short scene that leads to your wild Galarian Slowpoke encounter. This funny little guy comes from the Isle of Armor — a new DLC episode releasing later this year with 100+ new and returning Pokémon. Galarian Slowpoke is just a sneak peak.
The Galarian Slowpoke is only Level 12, so if you’re far into the game, just use a Level Ball for an easy catch. If you don’t have one of those, a simple Ultra Ball is more than enough to catch him at full health.
Funny enough, Galarian Slowpoke actually doesn’t have an entry in the Pokedex yet. You’ll have to access him from your party or the box — there’s no spot on the Pokedex, but there will be when the ‘Isle of Armor’ DLC releases later this year.
