Lancer GL (Gears 5)
The best new weapon in Gears 5 mixes two of my favorites — the Lancer, and the Mortar. The Lancer GL adds a grenade launcher secondary to the Lancer’s standard assault rifle frame, allowing you to accurately blast enemies, or drop an explosive payload on their hiding spots from the sky. It’s a joy to use, and one of the best new additions to the Gears arsenal in years.

Super Suction (Luigi’s Mansion 3)
Luigi stops messing around in Luigi’s Mansion 3. His spectral suction vacuum was designed to suck up ghosts, but once you unlock the Super Suction upgrade later in the story, you’ll be tearing down walls in impressive displays of physics-based destruction.
Once you find special plugs, Luigi can completely wreck everything in sight, ripping apart hotel floors down to their bones. You won’t find this much detailed destruction in anything since Red Faction: Guerilla, and that’s why Luigi’s old-new weapon belongs on the list.
Those are my personal favorite weapons of 2019. There are tons I’ve missed, and even more that deserve a callout. If your favorite didn’t make the top 10, don’t worry — it isn’t you, it’s my personal ignorance that’s to blame.
