Ditto is one of the most valuable Pokémon to capture in any of the games — and the same goes for Pokémon Sword & Shield. The only problem is, Ditto is incredibly rare. Like, he’s even more rare than usual. The only way to get him is to farm a very specific Max Raid Den in the Wilds.
It’s hard enough just getting a Ditto, but getting a useful Ditto with high IVs is tough. IVs are the ‘genes’ of a Pokémon, and you’ll be able to check them after beating the main story. Max IVs is what you’re aiming for, and Max Raid Pokémon will rarely have 4/5 Max IVs. The more Max IVs a Pokémon has, the better they are for breeding — they’ll pass those values onto their eggs.
And there’s no better Pokémon for breeding than Ditto. It can breed with any Pokémon in the game, and it’s worth farming for hours to get a good Ditto. Here’s where to find one.

How To Catch Ditto | Max Raid Location
There are plenty of Pokémon to catch in Max Raids, but Ditto is one of the most important if you’re aiming to breed loads of Pokémon. Ditto is genderless, so it can breed with any other Pokémon in your Pokedex — the trick is just finding a Pokémon with awesome IVs.
To find (and farm) for Ditto, you’ll need access to the Lake of Outrage in the Wilds. You’ll unlock the ability to cross water with the bike on Route 9. The den you’re looking for is the one surrounded by mysterious standing stones in a circle.
- NOTE: Ditto can also be found in the Lake of Outrage, wandering the overworld. These Pokémon are not guaranteed to have good IVs like Max Raid Dittos, but if you’re lucky enough to find a Brilliant Aura Ditto, those just might be great.
This particular Max Raid den is where Ditto can spawn, and you’ll need a lot of Wishing Pieces to make him appear. You can find Wishing Pieces by talking to the Digger Bros (Digging Duo) in the Wilds — they’re to the right of the Pokémon Nursery.
In exchange for 500 watts, they’ll collect random rare items for you. Only talk to the brother on the right — he digs less, but he can find the Wishing Piece. The left brother won’t find it no matter how hard he looks.
You can also purchase Wishing Pieces from the Watts Vendor outside the Lake of Outrage — they cost 3,000 Watts each.
When trying to catch a Ditto, make sure that you’re the Host. The Host of a Max Raid will always catch the Pokémon — there’s a 100% chance. You can do this by selected to stay on a Local Connection and not inviting other trainers to help. I also recommend making sure you do this early in the day, so if you are farming (and fail), you won’t get a midnight reset. All Max Raids reset at about midnight.
