Yooka-Laylee And The Impossible Lair: How To Unlock The Super Secret Chapter 1 Alternate Level

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair brings the animal duo back and puts them squarely in the platformer genre. You’ll be running and jumping through 20 levels filled with unique gimmicks, and every level has an alternate stage you can access for even more TWIT coins.

To unlock alternate levels, you’ll need to solve a puzzle in the environment. For every level in the game, you can just explore the nearby overworld to figure it out — for every level except one.

The first level is a mystery, and if you’re stumped on how to actually make the alternate level appear, we’ve got the solution below. You won’t be able to access it until way later in the game, but it’s also one of the most creative alternate stages. Totally worth a visit, and it’s required to get all those shiny TWIT coins.

Chapter 1 | Alternate Level Unlock Guide

To reach the secret Chapter 1 Alternate Level, you have to go pretty far into the game. Unlock all the Paywalls until you reach the beach area. That’s behind the final true Paywall — even if there’s one more path you can unlock with Twit Coins in the desert area.

Go down to the beach and search the lower corner of the water. There’s a cave entrance with a fisherman frog. Talk to him and he’ll leave! Go through the cave he was guarding, and you’ll find a path back to Yookah-Laylee’s secret base at the start of the game!

The Pirate Cove is home to some secrets and a bunch of tonics, but we need to keep going up. Talk to the cannon NPC and ask him to turn around, then attack him to knock down the bridge. Now you’ve got a shortcut to the very start of the game.

From here, you can go to Chapter 1. The fisherman frog is above the chapter. You can talk to him from below, but that won’t change anything — you need to climb up and talk to the frog from the ledge he’s sitting on. Do that, and the frog will rip out a huge chunk of the town in Chapter 1, creating a chaotic mess!

Now, finally, you can complete the alternate level of Chapter 1. This is the only alternate level you can’t reach until way later in the game, so it’s totally worth discussing here.
