#10 Rage 2
Rage is back with a brand new installment. Rage 2 will toss players into the role of Walker who is the last ranger. It’s your job to survive in this dangerous world after mutants flooded the world thanks to an otherworldly asteroid struck the surface. We also know that thirty years have passed since the events of the first Rage so you can expect to see a few familiar characters.
This is still a brutal FPS with an open world for players to explore, though information is still a bit scarce on the title. However, in past interviews about the game, Tim Willits, id Software a co-developer working on Rage 2, has stated that the developers are revamping the overall game with a better overall story, vehicles, characters and of course weapons.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see what information is slowly unveiled for this upcoming title but it already has us interested in checking the game out when it launches.
#9 Resident Evil 2
Capcom was one of the development studios who helped paved the way for the survival horror genre with their release of Resident Evil. That franchise has grown to become a hit in video games, films and novels. However, if you’re looking to get back into the series roots then you may be struggling.
While certain titles within the franchise have gone on to receive their own HD remakes and overhauls, other titles like Resident Evil 2 has been left alone. That was until Capcom unveiled that Resident Evil 2 would see a high-definition remake of the game which will greatly improve visuals and gameplay mechanics since its initial 1998 release.
The game takes place just months after the events of the original Resident Evil video game where players are taking control of Leon S Kennedy and Claire Redfield who must escape Raccoon City. Likewise, this is an early title release of the Resident Evil franchise, making it more of a survival horror title with a focus on carefully executing tasks, hostile creatures and puzzle solving.
#8 Shenmue III
After what felt like eons of being stuck in development hell, Shenmue III will finally hit store shelves in August of 2019. This game has had a cult following for years with the first two titles being one of the more treasured video game titles of its time despite being a commercial failure.
Years later Yu Suzuki, series creator, unveiled Shenmue III during an E3 conference in 2015. Seeking help from the fans, the development team was able to fund the game production where players will follow Ryo Hazuki as he searches for his father’s killer.
Since the video game’s announcement we have been hit with a few delays with the title most recently set for launch in 2018. However, a new delay that will supposedly allow the developers to further polish the game has pushed the game back until August of 2019 for the PC and PlayStation 4 platforms.
#7 Shin Megami Tensei V
The Shin Megami Tensei series will see its fifth installment soon on the Nintendo Switch. There are not too many details released for the game so far and it may not even launch within the 2019 release cycle. However, the franchise has a strong following and developers Atlus are hard at work in delivering a game that will be appealing to play on the home console setup along with the portability of the Nintendo Switch.
While Atlus are currently in development for the game, Kazuyuki Yamai, the producer behind Shin Megami Tensei V has previously stated that there will be more attention to developing demons this time around. We’re hoping that the game will make an appearance in the near future.
#6 Streets of Rage 4
This may date a few people here but Streets of Rage was a fantastic franchise by Sega. Known now as a classic beat ‘em up title there is no doubt that there were plenty of gamers hoping for a fourth installment, but after the third main entry released in 1994, we’ve been in limbo as to if this series would ever continue on. Over the years there have been rumors of a new installment, remake to even fans attempting to bring out an installment. Fast forward to this year where the fourth main installment is slated to launch.
Aesthetically the game is a bit different with a more cartoonish art style, but for the most part, this is the same beat ‘em up style game that most of us enjoyed on the Sega Genesis. So far the small bit of gameplay footage we’ve received only focuses on Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding as they take out the thugs and scum from the city. So far no plot has been given out yet but we do know the story will take place a decade after the events of Streets of Rage 3.
