Destiny 2: Forsaken – Last Wish Raid Guide | How To Beat Every Boss & Puzzle Encounter

September 20, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Conquer the new Dreaming City raid with these boss guides and puzzle solutions — here’s how to complete The Last Wish.

Step #4: How To Complete The Vault

The next encounter is extremely complicated. When you enter the strange  vault chamber, three guardians will need to step on three pads — each player will get three random symbols shown to them. Check out the symbols and agree what each symbol should be called — you’ll need these symbols.

There are three symbols that appear when standing on the pad — a center symbol, a left symbol, and a right symbol. Each plate requires a specific buff. There are two buffs you need to know about.

  • Antumbra: Buff for “Right”
  • Penumbra: Buff for “Left”

How do you determine which buff your plate needs? You’ll need to coordinate with your team. Call out your center symbol — the one displayed to you, the middle symbol of the three. Another player will have the exact same symbol on their set of three — it will always appear on the left or right side at another player’s plate. They’ll tell you that your symbol has appeared on the LEFT or RIGHT side on their display.

  • That’s how you’ll know which buff you need to power-up your plate. If it appears on another display on the LEFT side, you need the Penumbra Buff. If it appears on the RIGHT side, you need an Antumbra Buff.

Once everyone knows which buff they need, it’s time to actually go grab those buffs. While you’re figuring out the puzzle, enemies will constantly spawn into the arena. Assign three Guardians to be puzzle-solvers, and three to clear adds as they appear.

There are three side rooms to the vault — one with a tree, one with a rock pillar, and one with a big orb. Two of the rooms are blocked by Taken energy walls, and one will be open. Once you know which buff you need, you can leave the puzzle (center) room and fight into the side-room. Kill the Eye of Riven in this side-room and grab the Taken orb it drops.

  • As you grab the Eye of Riven, a black wall will appear. Only send ONE GUARDIAN to collect the Eye of Riven or multiple players will be trapped.

After collecting the Eye of Riven orb, the current room will seal and another room will open. Each of the side-rooms are connected through chambers that go either left or right. The team needs to tell the trapped person to go right or left to enter the now-open room and escape, reconnecting with the main team at the Vault puzzle.

Depending on which passage you take, RIGHT or LEFT, you’ll receive the PENUMBRA or ANTUMBRA buff. Remember those? We’ve determined which plates require which buff. Now that you have the buff, coordinate with your team and figure out which floor plate requires which buff. Use the grenade Eye of Riven power, and your buff will disappear.

  • WARNING: While solving the side-rooms, a Taken Knight will appear and move toward the plates. It will stick its sword into the plates, causing an instant team-wipe. The first phase, only one spawns. After two, two will spawn. At the last part, three will spawn.

Repeat the previous steps three times — kill the Eye of Riven, collect the orb, exit through a passage to receive one of the two buffs, and clear the correct plate.
