Sonic Mania Plus: How To Use New Sound Test Cheat Codes | Easter Egg Guide

July 23, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

The secrets never stop in Sonic Mania Plus. Access Sound Test Mode, and you can actually activate some crazy, cool cheat codes. Here’s how it works.

Sonic Mania Plus is just full of mysteries, and now you can play around with even more hidden features with these Sound Test “cheat codes” — maybe they’re closer to Easter eggs, because most of these effects aren’t going to help you beat the game. They will totally change some factors. They’re all weird, silly, or fulfill a long-demanded fan request (yes, you can finally disable Super Sonic’s music) — basically, it’s Sonic Mania Plus in a nutshell.

These particular codes were shared by Youtuber extraordinaire GameXplain. There are more codes, some that still haven’t been quite identified, discovered by the Sonic Maniacs over at Sonic Stadium. This is an awesome find, and one that’s well-worth trying out if you’ve already dug deep into the many, many secrets / Easter eggs of Sonic Mania. And don’t worry — these codes work in Sonic Mania and Sonic Mania Plus.

For more Sonic Mania secrets and stuff, check out the many, many guides published right here on Gameranx. You can also see what’s new (that isn’t a secret) in Sonic Mania Plus with our complete features rundown.

How To Use New Sound Test Cheat Codes | Easter Egg Guide

The cheat codes are available in Sound Test mode, and will work in both Sonic Mania and Sonic Mania Plus.

How To Access The Sound Test Board

  • Start up “Mania Mode” from the menu and select a “No Save” run.
  • Go to Options in Mania Mode -> Enable Debug Mode
  • Next, you need to enter the Level Select screen. To do this:
    • Hold [Nintendo Switch: Y / PS4: Square / XBO: X] and enter “No Save”
  • Welcome to the Level Select menu! From here, you can access the Sound Test board.

From Level Select, you’ll be able to use the Sound Test function — by testing certain sounds in a series, you’ll activate one of the following cheat codes. These cheats can be activated all at the same time, and can have some strange effects if you toggle them all on. Let’s go down the list.
