15 Incredible Action RPG Video Games Released For Xbox One In The Last Five Years

September 29, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

Get your action RPG fix for the Xbox One.

#10 Final Fantasy XV
  • Developer: Square Enix Business Division 2
  • Publisher: Square Enix

Final Fantasy XV is an action role-playing video game and the fifteenth main installment to the Final Fantasy franchise. Overall the story of Final Fantasy XV will center between two empires that have declared war, Lucis and Nifheim, though after Nifheim successfully captures the kingdom’s crystal of Lucis, a group of friend’s sets out to regain it. Players take control of Noctis, prince of Lucis, who teams up with his fellow friends in a grand journey against a massive empire force. The game is also set in an open world environment with available quests and collectibles to gather.

#9 Dragon Age: Inquisition
  • Developer: BioWare Edmonton
  • Publisher: Electronic Arts

The third major installment to the Dragon Age franchise, Dragon Age: Inquisition is an action role-playing video game where players take on the role of an Inquisitor who is on a grand journey to deal with the civil unrest in the continent of Thedas.

While developers have set the game to be on the same continent of the past two installments, exploration for Dragon Age: Inquisition is rather massive in comparison. For instance, it’s been noted that the game features a map that is already five times larger than the setting of the first installment of the series. With all that said, you’ll want to set aside some time to really dive into the video game.

#8 Destiny 2
  • Developer: Bungie
  • Publisher: Activision

The sequel to Destiny takes place after the events of Destiny: Rise of Iron. This title starts off with the Red Legion faction of the Cabal having attacked The Last City. Guardians are forced to flee and find new powers to face the Red Legion and bring order over The Last City once again. Just as before, there is new content being added to the game in order to extend narratives or competitive gameplay with other players. This is also a title intended for players to join together and play online with various quests, expansion and raids.

We’re not sure just how long Bungie is set to support Destiny 2 before a third installment officially launches but gamers can easily jump online today and enjoy an active community of players. Likewise, you won’t have to really dig too much into the first installment lore to really get a grasp of the narrative journey players dive into with this latest installment. This is also a perfect game for those of you who enjoy hunting down specific weapons or items, farming for resources, and of course gathering with a team of players when solving the latest quests or puzzles.

#7 Deux Ex: Mankind Divided
  • Developer: Eidos Montreal
  • Publisher: Square Enix

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided takes place in 2029, exactly two years after the events of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Players will once again step into the shoes of Adam Jensen as he seeks out the Illuminati, a group that was responsible for the Aug Incident of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Adam Jensen is an augmented former private security officer that is now working with a special Interpol unit known as Task Force 29. Set to seek out terrorist groups, players will use their augmentations to stealthily take down the enemy or enter restricted areas undetected.

If you’re not familiar with the franchise then you can still jump into this title and enjoy the narrative thanks to a good size recap showcasing the events that lead up to the latest installment. There is some complexity to the game as players are given a wide range of upgrades and abilities to use during the campaign and it could actually leave some replay value for those looking to see how the further buff or alter Adam Jensen.

#6 Dark Souls Remastered
  • Developer: FromSoftware
  • Publisher: Namco Bandai Games

Dark Souls released all the way back in 2011 so it’s been available to play for quite some time now. However, if you were uninterested in going back to this highly beloved action RPG simply due to the visual standpoint then you’ll be delighted to know the game has received a remastered edition.

There’s not very much to say about this title if you’ve already enjoyed it on last generation consoles. This remastered edition will retain the same gameplay mechanics but there will be a facelift to help give the game a nice touch up for modern day consoles. Likewise, the game has an overall improved framerate, resolution and includes the Artorias of the Abyss DLC.
