#22 Input Lag And How You Can Fight It
Whether you’re on console, PC, or mobile, input lag is absolutely going to screw you over. It’s infuriating, and you’ll see it while scrolling through items or weapons — but it’s especially prevalent when zipping through all those pre-built construction options.
If you’re just building walls and don’t plan on swapping between ramps, floor, pyramids, and more then you’re totally fine ignoring this step. But, if you’re the type that likes to build complex structures, it’s probably a good idea to limit your input lag with a very simple tip — in the lobby, edit your construction options to quick build structures you want.
Change pyramids to create the handy ramp/wall combo, change the ramp to create spiral staircases, or enhance the size of your walls. There are lots of ways to customize your construction so you’ll immediately get what you need faster.
#21 Don’t Turn Off Aim Assist! Here’s How It Works
Aim Assist is both great and terrible in Fortnite: Battle Royale. On console, it’s totally required — you shouldn’t turn it off, even if it feels like you’re missing lots of your shots. Aim Assist is disabled on Sniper Rifles, so you’ll need to land your shots correctly there — but everything else? That’s all Aim Assist.
As explained earlier in the guide, weapons are hitscan. Bullets actually land instantly, only Sniper Rifles have lead time / bullet drop calculated. The rest of your weapons, the SMG, the Shotguns, the Assault Rifles, all hit instantly where you fire. The tracers are a lie. Ignore those. All that matters is what’s in your crosshairs.
There are two basic tricks to using Aim Assist to your advantage. Auto Aim helps you stay on target when your crosshair is on an enemy. It will subtly keep you stuck on your target, but you need to move faster. Although all non-Sniper Rifle weapons are hitscan, you’ll need to slightly lead your targets when you have Aim Assist activated on consoles.
