Nov 7, 2017 Kevin Thielenhaus

Make the Tesla Gun even more powerful with these secret steps and craft one of four unique elemental variants in The Final Reich map for CoD: Zombies.

The Tesla Gun is an incredibly powerful Wonder Weapon you’ll unlock pretty early in the casual Easter egg quest found in Call of Duty: WW2’s first Zombies map — The Final Reich. Getting the Tesla Gun is pretty straightforward, the game will walk you through each step of the process. But, things get more complicated when the four elemental variants are thrown into the mix.

Yes, you can upgrade the Tesla Gun and make it even more powerful. Doing it is pretty tricky, and unlocking the parts you need for the Weapon Forge isn’t explained anywhere in-game. It’s all part of the “hardcore” Easter egg, and it’s totally secret. Follow the step-by-step instructions below for each of the four elemental variants and learn how to conquer the undead Nazi hordes with the best Tesla Guns in Call of Duty: WW2.

How To Upgrade The Tesla Gun | All Variants Guide

There are four elemental upgrades for the Tesla Gun, the powerful energy weapon you unlock early while completing the main Easter egg path. To reach the Tesla Gun, you’ll need to reactivate the power in the bunker, unlock the doors to the Emperor’s Chamber.

For more details on exactly how to unlock the Tesla Gun for yourself, check out the ‘Fireworks’ walkthrough in the link above. We’ll quickly give an overview explaining how to unlock the Tesla Gun here, as well.

Before you can upgrade the Tesla Gun, you’ll need to get the eapon yourself. Once you reach the Emperor’s Chamber, interact with the hilt and kill zombies to charge the transfer device with souls, then travel up into the Command room and turn the crank to open the canopy.

Hit the big red button in the control room up the stairs, and the transfer device will begin to move. Simply kill zombies in the red zone beneath the device to make it move to each corner of the Command room — you’ll get the Tesla Gun pieces. Place the pieces into the forge and the Tesla Gun will be your’s.

Tesla Gun Elemental Upgrades Guide

There are multiple Tesla Gun upgrades, and these special Easter egg enhancements are required for the hardcore quest. Each Tesla Gun elemental upgrade has a unique special effect.

The “Midnight” Tesla variant shoots a laser beam of deadly light that cuts directly through enemies in a straight line. Create a line of zombies and blast all of them at the same time to wipe out entire groups.

Shine the Brenner zombie’s head on this statue to shatter it.
  • How To Get The “Midnight” Tesla Variant
    1. Collect a Brenner Zombie boss head.
    2. Shine the purple light onto a statue to the left of the stairs to the Courtyard. The statue will shatter.
    3. Shoot the broken statue with the Tesla Gun and collect the battery.
    4. Place the battery in the charger in the Courtyard nearby.
    5. Get kills with the Courtyard trap (30~) to charge the battery.
    6. Complete the ‘Firework’ casual Easter egg quest step where you’ll need to protect the lightning rods at the base of the Tower.
    7. Take the battery and return to the lab. Place it to the left of the machine that spawned one of the Tesla Gun parts.
    8. Protect the battery (1-2 minutes) and collect the part from the crafting station.
    9. Return to the Weapon Forge in the Command room and use the part plus the Tesla Gun.

The “Reaper” Tesla Variant is even more powerful than the “Midnight” and is absolutely required for the  hardcore Easter egg. This weapon freezes a zombie with sparking energy that explodes after a few seconds, killing any nearby zombies.

Trick the armored zombie to smash into this panel to crack it open.
  • How To Get The “Reaper” Tesla Variant
    1. After collecting the Tesla Gun, make sure the doors to the Sewers (the Pack-a-Punch upgrade station area) are open.
    2. Lead a large zombie with the mace-arm to the Weapon Upgrade Station area of the Sewers. They will spawn in Round 7+.
    3. The large zombies need to hit the gray door-like compartment one the exterior wall. Just stand in place in front and take the hit to make sure the compartment opens.
    4. Collect the battery and place it in the charger station near the Weapon Upgrade Station.
    5. Activate the Saw Trap in the Sewers to charge the battery with bomber zombie souls. Only 4-6 are required.
      • The battery will glow green when zombies are standing close enough to accept a charge.
    6. Complete the casual Easter egg step requiring you defend the lightning rods at the base of the tower.
    7. Place the battery in the slot to the right of the Tesla Gun Part spawner in the Morgue.
    8. Defend the battery until a part appear in the machine.
    9. Return to Command and insert the new part with the Tesla Gun to create the “Reaper.”

  • How To Get The ‘Bloodthirst’ Tesla Variant
    1. Use the normal Tesla Gun to shoot a flickering street lamp in the Riverside area. The lamp buzzes when you’re near — find it to the left of the path down to the docks, behind the large statue.
    2. Shoot the strange green sparks that appear from street lamps — follow a path from Riverside, to the Village Entrance, to the Village Square, to Command, then finally the Morgue.
    3. Collect the battery on the ground in the back room of the Morgue, down the steps. It will appear if you shoot every sparking green light.
    4. Place the battery in the charger just to the left of the battery spawn point, next to a metal gate with yellow light streaming through.
    5. Kill Pest Zombies to charge the battery. It will take 30-50 Pest Zombie souls to fully charge the battery.
    6. Continue to follow the casual Easter egg steps until you complete the lightning rod defense at the Tower.
    7. Place the charged battery in the slot to the left of the Morgue Tesla Gun part spawner.
    8. Defend the battery from waves of zombies until the part spawns.
    9. Insert the part into the Weapon Forge on the upper floor of the Command Room to unlock the Bloodthirst variant.
  • How To Get The ‘Hurricane’ Tesla Variant
    1. Lead a Bomber zombie to the Lab and let it explode over a gray metal panel.
      • The panel is on the landing up the steps to the left of the Tesla Gun part spawning machine.
    2. Take the battery inside and place it in the charger located in the electricity trap hallway.
    3. Wait until two Wustling (large charger zombies) spawn in a wave. Kill two Wustling zombies at the same time with the Lab electricity trap to charge the battery.
      • You’ll need to do this twice — for a total of 4 Wustling zombie kills using the trap only.
    4. Complete the lightning rod defense quest at the Tower while completing the casual Easter egg.
    5. Grab the battery and place it in the slot to the right of the Lab Tesla Gun part machine.
    6. Defend the battery from waves of zombies until the part spawns.
    7. Insert the part into the Weapon Forge on the upper floor of the Command Room to unlock the Hurricane variant.

Complete all four Tesla Gun variants to unlock the ‘Dark Arts‘ achievement / trophy. You’ll need these variants to solve the hardcore Easter egg. Goodluck!
