State of Decay 2
- Developer: Undead Labs
- Publisher: Microsoft Studios
- Platforms: PC, XB1
- Release Date: May 22, 2018
Overall, State of Decay 2 is a zombie-survival game that lets players have their own unique story. While battling zombies is very much a key aspect of the upcoming title release, players are encouraged to work together in setting up their own community that’s able to successfully take out the undead threat.
The previous installment release saw a number of different zombie subtypes which had unique abilities about them. For instance, certain zombies would make more noise to attract a horde while others could be larger and more powerful to defeat.
Overkill’s The Walking Dead
- Developer: Overkill Software
- Publisher: Starbreeze Studios, 505 Games
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XB1
- Release: November 6, 2018
The Walking Dead is an upcoming first-person co-op shooter based on The Walking Dead comic book series. Players will have to survive together in a world that has been dominated by mindless flesh-eating walkers.
While details surrounding the video game narrative have yet to be fully fleshed out to the public, the development team has announced that a VR version of the game will be launching for the game as well. The game was unveiled during E3 2018 where we can expect the title to launch within November of this year.
Currently, we know that players will have four different playable characters with their own abilities and play styles. We’re interested in seeing just how the zombies react in this game and how the different abilities will come into play during the combat portion of the game.
Telltale The Walking Dead Final Season
- Developer: Telltale Games
- Publisher: Telltale Games
- Platforms: TBA
- Release: August 2018
Telltale Games is known for delivering fans a fantastic experience with whatever IP they get their hands on. One of the more popular franchises the developers have worked on is The Walking Dead. With a total of three main seasons released, the narrative has followed a number of characters through their journey of being of the last living humans in a world covered by a sea of undead.
With that said, the main protagonist has continued to be Clementine, a young girl who has grown within this post-apocalyptic world. Currently, the last season for the video game series is slated to launch next year, 2018.
Metal Gear Survive
- Developer: Konami Digital Entertainment
- Publisher: Konami
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: February 20, 2018
While not your normal Metal Gear Solid title, the upcoming Metal Gear Survive video game looks interesting. The title follows the events from the end of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and before the events of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Upon Big Boss leaving Mother Base, a wormhole opens up and begins to absorb the remaining soldiers. Tossed into a new reality, you’ll find yourself against a slew of hostile zombie-like creatures. Can you find the materials needed to return home or will you be left as nothing more than a quick meal for the blood thirsty enemies?
World War Z
- Developer: Saber Interactive
- Publisher: Saber Interactive
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: 2018
World War Z became a hit novel when it released and since then the story was adapted loosely into a blockbuster film. Now that story is moving into the video game industry with a title being developed under Saber Interactive.
We’re still waiting to hear more information about the game, but from what we can tell so far, the video game may be aimed more towards the novel than the film. Players will be going across the world in different regions as they partake in survival stories against the zombie pandemic.
Furthermore, the game will feature four player co-op which means you and your friends can blast through the undead. There also seems to be a massive amount of undead coming at players so you may not get the same vibe and feel as Left 4 Dead though, at the same time, the reveal trailer does show players unloading assault weapons into the horde rather than rushing to safety.
Out of pure assumption, there is bound to be a few different types of zombie threats to face against, similar to the Left 4 Dead and State of Decay series. However, we’ll have to wait and just see what the developers unveil about the game in the coming months.
Infectonator 3: Apocalypse
- Developer: Toge Productions
- Publisher: Armor Games Studios
- Platforms: PC
- Release: May 10, 2018
Infectonator 3: Apocalypse is a simulation game mixed with some fun strategy elements. Within the game, players are in control of a zombie virus that they must unleash into the world. The game is played in levels where players can craft their zombie DNA and cast it on a civilian in hopes to infect other humans nearby before ultimately being taken down.
Throughout the game, players will also be able to adjust the virus DNA to make new zombies with unique attributes. Furthermore, there are over a hundred levels with plenty of replay value thanks to the different DNA mutations and randomized events.
This is a lighthearted zombie title that should give players a nice time killer on the PC platform.
Daymare: 1998
- Developer: Invader Studios
- Publisher: Invader STUDIOS
- Platforms: PS4, XBO, PC,
- Release: 2018
Invader Studios was at once developing a remake of Resident Evil 2 before it was killed off by Capcom. Now instead of abandoning the game completely, the developers are crafting their own unique zombie survival horror title known as Daymare: 1998. This is not only a title that pays homage to the past old school survival horror titles but also includes a number of key individuals who had worked on past classics.
For instance, we know that Kazuhiro Aoyama who had hands on Resident Evil and directed Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is contributing in the production of Daymare: 1998. Overall, this is an over-the-shoulder third-person survival horror title where players will be battling against a slew of different zombies.
Currently, the game is slated to release in 2018 though there doesn’t appear to be a specific release date attached to the project quite yet.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
- Developer: Treyarch
- Publisher: Activision
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: October 12, 2018
There seems to never be any shortages when it comes to the Call of Duty franchise and this year we’re getting a new installment to the Black Ops line. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be launching in October of this year though there is one rather major element being completely dropped with this upcoming installment.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will not contain a campaign mode. In the day and age of battle royale modes being incredibly popular, Treyarch has decided to make this next call of the Duty title to feature nothing but a multiplayer component.
The focus will be doubling down on the multiplayer game modes including Zombies. So if you’re a fan of Call of Duty for their online multiplayer matches then you have nothing to worry about in this installment but with that said, if you picked up the latest installments to enjoy the action-packed campaigns then you may have to hold out for the 2019 installment release.
Speaking of the Zombies mode, players will still have four-player co-op against waves of undead while spanning across three different maps. Apparently the story this time around the Zombies mode is that players will be battling against an old organization order that is attempting to transform the world.
