Far Cry 5
- Developer: Ubisoft Montreal
- Publisher: Ubisoft
- Release: March 27, 2018
- Platforms: PS4, XBO, PC
Far Cry 5 will be seeing a release in 2018. The video game takes place within the United States of America this time around, though more specifically, in a fictional town residing within Hope County, Montana.
Within the narrative, Far Cry 5 pins players against Joseph Seed, a leader of a cult who has forced his way into controlling Hope County. As more innocent civilians become trapped and forced into submission under Joseph Seed’s rule, only a handful of resistance stands between Seed and his reign.
Just as before, players can expect the title to deliver as a first-person shooter in an open world environment to explore either on foot or through vehicles.
State of Decay 2
- Developer: Undead Labs
- Publisher: Microsoft Studios
- Platforms: PC, XB1
- Release Date: May 22, 2018
State of Decay 2 is a zombie-survival game that lets players have their own unique story. While battling zombies is very much a key aspect of the title, players are encouraged to work together in setting up their own community that’s able to successfully take out the undead threat.
A large part of the game is also managing and upgrading your base. The larger your base gets the more resources it will need forcing you to go out into the wilderness filled with flesh eating monsters. Of course, you’ll be able to work with friends as the game does offer four-player cooperative gameplay.
God of War
- Developer: SIE Santa Monica Studio
- Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
- Platforms: PS4
- Release: April 20, 2018
What can we say about God of War that you probably are not already fully aware of? The video game franchise got its start back in the days of the PlayStation 2 and is still going strong today. However, this upcoming title, in particular, is more of a soft reboot to the franchise.
If you’re familiar with the past installments, this time around Kratos has ended his time with Greek mythology and has moved onto Norse mythology. Likewise, Kratos will not be alone anymore as he will be looking over his son named Atreus, preparing him for the real world after the recent passing of his mother.
Adding a son to the mix and an older Kratos will certainly change some aspects that we’re familiar with in the God of War franchise. Kratos will have to control his rage while he teaches his son vital life lessons.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
- Developer: Treyarch
- Publisher: Activision
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: October 12, 2018
There seems to never be any shortages when it comes to the Call of Duty franchise and this year we’re getting a new installment to the Black Ops line. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be launching in October of this year though there is one rather major element being completely dropped with this upcoming installment.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will not contain a campaign mode. In the day and age of battle royale modes being incredibly popular, Treyarch has decided to make this next call of the Duty title to feature nothing but a multiplayer component.
The focus will be doubling down on the multiplayer game modes including Zombies. So if you’re a fan of Call of Duty for their online multiplayer matches then you have nothing to worry about in this installment but with that said, if you picked up the latest installments to enjoy the action-packed campaigns then you may have to hold out for the 2019 installment release.
Extinction
- Developer: Iron Galaxy
- Publisher: Maximum Games
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: April 10, 2018
Extinction is an action video game developed by Iron Galaxy, who may be best known for Killer Instinct. Coming out soon is their latest title, Extinction, which looks and acts similar to the Attack on Titan franchise.
Within the game, players will take control of a soldier named Avil who must protect the world from giant ogres. Gameplay is said to be fast paced where players will run around the map, making wall runs or even using your whip to vault you up towards the beast.
Developers also have plans for future DLC with the game so after you finish up the narrative campaign and side missions, more content will be rolling out for gamers to enjoy. Just how much content is set to launch after the game remains to be seen, but Extinction in itself looks to be rather interesting.
Warhammer: Vermintide 2
- Developer: Fatshark
- Publisher: Fatshark
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: 2018
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a first-person action title that follows the events of the first title, Warhammer: End Times -Vermintide. Within the game, players must band together as they fight against a Chaos army along with a race of rat-men known as Skaven. Much of the game is focused around melee action with a slew of weapons and abilities making battles fluid and action-packed.
Players will be able to select from five different characters all of which can be adjusted to match a certain class pathway resulting in different sets of skills and abilities. Currently, the game is only available on the PC and Xbox One platform. The latter of the two is free for players who own an Xbox Game Pass. For PlayStation 4 owners, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is slated to release at some point this year.
Battlefield V
- Developer: EA DICE
- Publisher: Electronic Arts
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: October 19, 2018
Battlefield V is the latest upcoming installment to the Battlefield franchise which will follow after the previous release, Battlefield 1. This time around, EA Dice is focusing their storyline with World War II as players embark on yet another war-torn journey. Unfortunately, not too many details have been released yet for the game, though from the trailers released it seems that we’ll still have the war stories style campaign much like how EA DICE developed Battlefield 1.
Multiplayer is also still a major component with Battlefield V and it will receive even more new expansive game modes. Also, the game will include a battle royale style mode which doesn’t come to much surprise due to the success other titles have been receiving with battle royale.
What may be the most popular aspect leading up to the release of Battlefield V is the fact that the game has no premium pass or paid expansions which means that everyone will gain access to the content released after launch.
Being based within World War II we imagine the action will be tense and brutal. Likewise, because of the war stories element, developers will likely bring you into the harsh lives of soldiers that put their life on the line to defend beliefs or protect loved ones.
