So, as we’ve outlined in previous articles, we have Sonic The Hedgehog to thank for many things regarding the live-action video game adaptations that have happened since 2020. While he wasn’t the one who started the “good video game movies/shows” trend, he was the one who not only kept it going but also proved you could build up on what worked and keep people coming back. When his movie sequel did better than the first, Paramount decided that they wouldn’t just do a third movie; they would do a TV series starring Knuckles. And yes, Idris Elba would return to voice him. No one puts Idris Elba in the corner!
Anyway, the series was originally meant to hit Paramount+ last year, but things didn’t work out, and so today, we got the first trailer for the Knuckles series. How is it? Well, it’s certainly something. The series takes place a short while after the second movie, and we see our dear Echidna struggling to live on Earth because “it’s not a place for warriors.”
Therefore, he goes on a “quest” to travel the land alongside his new “protégé,” Wade,” in order to save people from danger. Thankfully for him, there is someone who needs to be put down. One of Robotnik’s minions has gotten some of Knuckle’s hair, not unlike what Robotnik did with Sonic in the first movie, and is sending people after him to get more.
A 6-episode slam fest follows where Knuckles will have to show his power and possibly grow a little bit in the process. Oh, and Wade might learn to “save himself,” but the jury is still out on that one. The other good news is that the series has a release date of April 26th! So, while it’s a little bit away, we do at least know when it’ll arrive.

This is the second bit of news featuring Sonic and friends in the last week, as a small teaser for the third movie dropped, and it not only highlighted the upcoming debut of Shadow the Hedgehog but teased that the iconic track “Live and Learn” would be a part of the film. There’s no word on who is voicing Shadow, but fans have been giving some interesting ideas ever since he was confirmed.
Regardless, if the arrival of Shadow and the spinoff with Knuckles does well, this would make this easily the most successful video game universe of films ever. In fact, it wouldn’t even be close.
