We’re in the new year, so it won’t be too long before we get to have fun and enjoy a slew of new AAA titles. But while not all of them will be entirely new, that doesn’t mean they won’t be fun. After all, some of them are much-needed updates and remakes to help make what is old new again. An excellent example of this is Persona 3 Reload. The title was the game that saved Atlus and the beloved RPG franchise, but its previous form, which was ported around last year, wasn’t really “up to date” with modern gaming standards, so Atlus decided to fix that.
The remake is a full-on remake in every sense of the word. It has updated visuals to make things feel more like a recent gaming release, as well as a brand new group of voice actors to breathe new life into the characters. Plus, they took many ideas and layouts from their most recent franchise entry to make things consistent. So it will feel like a new game while still being the same story as before.
To help celebrate the game’s upcoming release, Atlus dropped the “Full Moon, Full Life” opening movie that helps welcome you into the world. As you’ll see below, the game’s intro is incredibly stylish while also hiding plenty of teases for what’s to come. For example, we see shots of the friends you’ll make in the S.E.E.S. group being happy and lively, only to showcase a frame or two later that they’re not exactly all that they seem to be.
We also get shots of the “invoker,” which they use to bring out their Personas in battle. It may seem a bit dark at times, but the franchise has never shied away from some of the more “mature” elements of the RPG world to tell a better story and dive into their characters’ depths.
In Persona 3 Reload, you’ll play a transfer student who goes to a new part of Japan and gets wrapped up in the mystery and conspiracy of the “Dark Hour.” This extra hour of time during the day is caused by a place called Tartarus, and it unleashes monsters into the world. Through your Persona, you can fight back against them, and that gets you into the S.E.E.S. group, where you’ll make lots of new friends and slowly learn more about them, even developing deep relationships with them.
The game releases on February 2nd.
