Valheim blew up in popularity online when it was first released. This survival game was a hit, and it wasn’t surprising to see the developers bring the game over to the console platform. After its initial early access debut on PC, Xbox owners recently had the ability to try this game out. That port release also came with Valheim being put on the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. With the newfound player base enjoying the game, some were wondering just when Valheim will release on the PlayStation platform. A recent email might have clued us in on that, but the developers are now killing off rumors a port is in the works.
If you recall, it was recently reported that Valheim had a six-month exclusivity deal for Xbox. This came in the form of an Xbox Game Pass email hyping up the release of Valheim for the subscription service. That would have prompted plenty of players to assume that Valheim would be coming into the marketplace right after the exclusive deal came to an end. But that’s not the case here, as recently, GamesRadar managed to speak with the co-founder of Iron Game to talk about a potential PlayStation port. According to the discussion, the development team over at Iron Gate has confirmed that there are currently no plans to release the game to other platforms.
That doesn’t mean that there will never be a port release for Valheim. But at the moment, it seems that all focus right now is the PC and Xbox platform for the game. In fact, it wasn’t long ago that we had a similar topic come up. Final Fantasy XVI is a massively anticipated game in the marketplace with a similar exclusivity deal for the PlayStation 5. So naturally, fans assumed that when this deal expired, we would see Final Fantasy XVI released on the PC platform.
Of course, similar to the Valheim release, the developers have no plans to release Final Fantasy XVI immediately after the exclusivity deal wraps on PlayStation 5. So, for now, it looks like these end dates for exclusive deals are not an indicator that the game will release on another platform. Again, that doesn’t mean Final Fantasy XVI is not coming to PC. But it does seem like the developers on both Valheim and Final Fantasy XVI need a bit more time to ensure that when a port comes out, it’s well-optimized for the designated platform.
