With the PlayStation 5 now more accessible to obtain thanks to retailers having stock more readily available, it looks like new models are inbound. We heard in the past that there was a new model apparently in the works. Reports suggested that this new model of the PlayStation 5 would phase out the current models offered now. What makes this new model different is that there would be a detachable disc drive. While we’re still waiting on this model to be confirmed and unveiled, another model is in the works for a release next year.
A PlayStation 5 Pro is reportedly in development. This news comes from a report by Insider Gaming. The author, Tom Henderson, has been a credible industry insider, but we have to label this as a rumor for now. According to the report, sources have alerted the reporter of a new PlayStation 5 model being worked on. This would be the PlayStation 5 Pro and not the previously rumored PlayStation 5 model with the detachable disc drive. Instead, this is a more enhanced version of the console, similar to the last-generation PlayStation 4 Pro.
We can expect an overall boost in performance with this new console which might make the purchase more appealing for consumers that might have skipped out on the PlayStation 5 previously. Of course, we don’t have any specifications as to what might be powering this PlayStation 5 Pro just yet. Instead, there is only a rumor of the console being in development, with Sony looking to launch the PlayStation 5 Pro sometime in late 2024. So there is still plenty of time for leaks to make their way out and for consumers to speculate how much of a performance boost this model will have over the likes of the PlayStation 5.
Additionally, we’re still waiting to hear official statements on the previously rumored and reported PlayStation 5 model with the detachable disc drive. It would also be interesting to see if this particular model will have any other additional improvements over the already released PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 digital models that are currently in the market. In the past, there were reports that the liquid metal used to cool the APU was potentially leaking out, which was a cause for concern. So it would be interesting to see if any adjustments are made on that front.
