Psychonauts is a 3D platformer game which first released in 2005. It follows the tale of Raz, a psychically gifted young boy who escapes the circus to attend a special summer camp for ‘psychonauts‘ training. In 2012, Double Fine hinted at wanting to make a sequel, which was eventually confirmed at The Game Awards three years later. Psychonauts 2 was successfully funded on Fig, a crowdfunding platform much like Kickstarter to the tune of a very cool $3.3 million dollars. More recently, Double Fine announced a partnership with Starbreeze Studios which will secure extra funding for the game. But since Psychonauts 2 is expected to come out in 2018, Double Fine is giving fans a separate entry in the series – Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin – to tide them over.
Come February 21st, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin will release exclusively for PlayStation VR. It is designed to bridge the 12 year gap between the original game and the sequel, offering players an epic adventure coloured with puzzles, telekinesis and clairvoyance, all through the eyes of returning protagonist Raz. Pre-order it today from the PlayStation Store for $19.99 USD ($17.99 USD for PlayStation Plus subscribers) and receive Psychonauts as a bonus.
