One thing that’s easy to forget about Grand Theft Auto Online is not only that it’s been “online” for a long time, but that Rockstar Games has done all manner of content for it over the years to keep players coming back to it. Granted, the standard gameplay loop to help make your own criminal empire was fun, but they needed to add new story missions and other content to keep players truly invested. Today, on Reddit, one such player decided to honor the anniversary of The Cayo Perico heist, which was apparently a favorite of theirs, and of other players:
“Been a good five years since we met our good friend Pavel. Love it when he calls us Kapitan.
We probably made El Rubio lose billions, or maybe even trillions from robbing him all the time lol. Pre nerf Cayo was something else.”
Heists are a classic part of the Grand Theft Auto Online experience, and many Redditors were more than happy to reminisce over what happened when the content came out and how they partook in it:
“Watch, we’re probably just unwitting participants in the biggest insurance scam of all time. We’re probably singlehandedly keeping the entire service industry afloat.”
“I remember getting up early that morning before school, I drove from my casino penthouse to Terminal and set my spawn location to last location so that I could go straight to the island when I logged back on, then left for school. On my way back from school I was scrolling on reddit to see what the new update brought. I distinctly remember someone posted about a beached whale, and that I planned on going to find it.
I remember no one knew what to expect (well, at least I certainly didn’t). I remember rockstar were talking about lot about primary and secondary targets, and so, me being a hitman player, assumed it was a heist based on assassination.”
“Crazy how long it’s been for the casino and cayo, it feels like they’re still brand new.”
What’s old is new again, as they say, and the comments kept going on, including from those who hadn’t done the heist before, with others encouraging them to give it a shot, especially with all the money that was on the table for them to get!
Clearly, this mission will be held up as a benchmark for what is to come when the next game’s online mode drops.
