Is GTA 6 Still The Biggest Game Coming Out In 2026?

December 15, 2025 by Todd Black

It is…but it’s a little more complicated than that.

As of right now, we’re halfway through the month of December. If you’re not getting what that means, we’re referring to how we have basically two weeks until the end of the year and the start of 2026. 2025 has been a blur in many respects, and many things people expected to happen in the gaming space didn’t, including certain games being blockbuster successes, and certain “flops” doing far more than people thought, and then some. Then, there’s GTA 6, which everyone truly thought would arrive this year, but alas, that wasn’t the case. Instead, it’s now slated for November 2026.

With that new release date, gamers are now counting down to the new launch window so that they can be ready for when it comes. The question, though, is whether it is now officially the “biggest new game coming out in 2026?”

On the surface, that might seem like an easy “yes,” especially with how much hype is behind it, and the success of the previous entry in the Rockstar Games franchise. That title sold hundreds of millions of copies, and the online mode alone gave all manner of cash to Rockstar. Who would be foolish enough to bet against that?

Well, it’s not about foolishness, it’s about context. For example, while 2026 does have some big titles coming out, not all of them have been announced. The best example of that is with Nintendo. The Switch 2 has had some incredible game releases since June, including a blitz of titles from September to early December. The publisher has already started revealing its 2026 roster, but it’s not even half revealed as of yet. If Mario, Link, the Inklings, or others show up, those are guaranteed to be huge sellers on the system.

Plus, this year has had some big surprises in terms of sales success, so all it takes is the right game coming along to “wow” the masses, strike up a whole bunch of sales, and then change things once again.

Finally, and arguably most importantly, while it’s easy to say that GTA 6 will be “The Biggest Game of 2026,” the fact of the matter remains that the game is possibly getting another delay. We know you don’t want to hear that, but it’s true. There are already “warning signs,” and the community is legit prepping for it.

As such, it can’t be the biggest game in 2026 if it’s not coming out in 2026.
