Borderlands 4 May Have Left The Horrors Of Kairos Drops In The Game Post-Event

December 1, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

That’s a real solid that Gearbox did for their players.

Gearbox may have done Borderlands 4 players a solid without even telling them.

Community member José Leite, AKA @PEDEMOSCA139, shared this information on Twitter:

apparently you can still get the halloween gear even after the event has ended, this is a murmur i just got while doing vile bounties (games on portuguese btw). Dont know if it is intentional tho

So, incredibly enough, not only did the Borderlands 4 community find this, but they also happened to be way outside the US.

EpicNNG was tagged on this tweet and shared his reaction:

If intentional, this is a great choice by Gearbox.

Removing these weapons from the drop pool would not benefit the game at all, I’m glad they (seemingly) listened.

EpicNNG also received replies confirming that they were able to get these drops.

What Items Are We Talking About Here?

As a quick refresher, Borderlands 4’s Halloween event was called The Horrors of Kairos. It was hard to even participate in the event, as players went all over the map chasing instances of the bubbles to fight in the blood rain.

The two items were the Murmur, a Legendary tier Tediore assault rifle, and the Skully, a Legendary tier grenade ordnance made by the Timekeeper’s faction, the Order.

There was trouble for these items too. In particular, Skully was not dealing the damage that was expected of an ordnance of its class and rarity.

Gearbox did patch the Skully, but a lot of fans complained that they did not get a chance to pick the item up.

Borderlands Is Literally Built Different

Some fans may be wondering why Gearbox did not pull Skully, to sway players to jump back in when it becomes available again a few months later. But that misunderstands what Gearbox and Borderlands is.

As creative director Graeme Timmins explained, they don’t see Borderlands as a ‘truly’ live service title. They don’t intend to monetize the items for Borderlands 4’s lifetime at all.

That is similar to how Nintendo treats their Splatoon platform shooter games. Nintendo, like Gearbox, has clearly taken some inspiration from their peers. But they still like dancing to the beat of their own drum.

Gearbox does not let us forget that they are the progenitors of the looter shooter as we know it today. And so it would make sense if they intended Skully and Murmur to join the regular rotation of drops after Horrors of Kairos.

If this all turns out to be unintentional, we certainly hope that they don’t make any changes to this anyway. Like Timmins said, they just love making their work better.
