Borderlands fans are enjoying the latest mainline installment for the franchise. It was back in September of this year that we got our hands on Borderlands 4. While most players interested in the game have likely already completed the campaign, we know more content is on the way. There’s going to be reasons to step back into this looter shooter for a good while. However, it appears that fans are still pushing forward to give players even more Borderlands with the Borderlands Online project.
We wouldn’t be surprised if you’re unfamiliar with the project. It’s actually a canceled video game project that was in development back in 2014. Initially, the plan was to release this MMO game as a free-to-play online experience in China. However, that wouldn’t come to fruition as the game was eventually scrapped, and the development team, Shanda Games, closed its doors in 2015.
Borderlands Online Fan Project Still In The Works
It’s always fascinating to see some projects come to light after being canceled. There are teams out there that scour the web and highlight assets to showcase what could have potentially come to market. However, there are also some teams out there that look to pick up the pieces and continue onward. There’s no money to be made, just fans with a passion and desire to see these games come out.
Borderlands Online is one of those passion projects, and thanks to GamesRadar, we’re discovering a new development update. EpicNNG has been working on the project and trying to get it out into the hands of players worldwide. Now that some time has passed, EpicNNG is showcasing a little more about the game and its current progress on X.
It turns out that the team has made significant progress, as they believe they have finally obtained the latest, if not final, builds of the game. That should help significantly in getting this game out, but it’s not quite at the level to be shared. We don’t even have gameplay footage of it yet, but hopefully that will change sooner rather than later.
Meanwhile, EpicNNG is looking for more hands on deck. Those interested in getting this game out can email EpicNNG. Otherwise, there are pleas to the Borderlands IP owners not to kill the project off. Of course, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. For now, fans can wait for more content to come into Borderlands 4. Likewise, if you haven’t picked up a copy of the latest game, there’s a new Black Friday deal promotion that will save you a bit of money.
