Marvel’s Wolverine Joins Grand Theft Auto 6 and Call Of Duty In The Fall 2026 Conversation

This could be a potential bloodbath.

A new contender has come forward to fight with Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto 6.

Last week, when Rockstar revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be delayed even further to November 2026, fans realized that the game would inevitably clash with Call of Duty.

This is where Insomniac Games comes in.

Over the weekend, the Insomniac Games Twitter account made this announcement:

Don’t miss a shred of information. Wishlist Marvel’s Wolverine, coming Fall 2026.

Insomniac had previously announced in last September’s State of Play that the game was coming in late 2026. You can wishlist Marvel’s Wolverine for PlayStation 5 here.

The Story Of Marvel’s Wolverine

Marvel’s Wolverine was originally announced in a September 2021 State of Play. We already knew that the game was being developed by Insomniac Games and that the creative director was Brian Horton.

Sony and Insomniac were mum on the game, but details then leaked thanks to 2023’s ransomware hack of Insomniac. We got so much information that a playable early build also came out of the leak.

The game then lost several staff, including Brian Horton himself. It isn’t clear how many of these staff were part of Sony’s layoffs, and how many chose to leave themselves.

We know that Insomniac is in flux with completely new management since this year started. But this is still the same Insomniac that released new AAAs for the PlayStation 5 for consecutive years.

Insomniac Vs. Infinity Ward Vs. Rockstar?

This could set the stage for a potentially huge showdown in Fall 2026. You know that none of these studios wanted to have this showdown, knowing they would split their players apart.

This is happening because all these games needed delays to get more polish. All these studios have learned the harsh lesson from Cyberpunk 2077: if you release a game too early, you risk destroying your reputation and harming yourself in the long term.

But now this dilemma is potentially passed on to the gamers themselves. Even if they all don’t release on the same day or week, these three games can still release too close to each other.

There will be players who will be interested in all of them and pick to play one first. Marvel’s Wolverine has the backing of Sony and the big Marvel franchise behind it.

On the flip side, Call of Duty is an annualized behemoth that does well even when the games get bad reviews. Rockstar is similarly such a behemoth that Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be the biggest video game launch in history.

We do expect if Sony and Microsoft can afford to do so, they’ll try to release weeks ahead or after Rockstar. But we’ll see how this plays out next year.
