Mark Henry has shared his reaction to being added to WWE 2K25.
Henry is part of the Attitude Era Superstars Pack, which is releasing for the game later today. Busted Open Radio, which is hosted by Henry among others, shared his live reaction to his entrance in the game.
Wait A Minute… That’s Not Attitude Era Mark Henry?
Yes, if you’re a hardcore wrestling fan you may have immediately recognized that they didn’t actually use Mark Henry’s gimmick and entrance from the Attitude era. He was a performer in that era, but he went through a lot of entrances through the years.
Henry was best known from the Attitude Era for two gimmicks; as a member of the Nation of Domination, and his comedy gimmick as Sexual Chocolate. He was part of a lot of memorable storylines and moments from both these gimmicks.
People still remember when he and D’lo Brown turned on The Rock, dissolving the Nation. After that came his salacious relationship with then octogenarian Mae Young. That ended when Young ludicrously gave birth to a hand.
But that was not really Mark Henry at this best. It would take until when Henry hit a crossroads at 40 years old, in 2011, that he fulfilled his full potential as a superstar.
Hall Of Pain Mark Henry Is The Right Mark Henry To Add In WWE 2K25
Wrestling fans who dropped out after the Monday Night Wars missed out on Henry’s growth as a performer. He did take time to learn his craft after the peak of the Attitude era and came back as a better wrestler. He also worked on his promos and sought to impress, but WWE didn’t see him as the main eventer the likes of John Cena and Brock Lesnar were.
In 2011, he reinvented himself as a monster heel, taking out opponents by breaking their legs with a steel chair. He would refer to this as inducting them to the “Hall of Pain.”
And he clinched this gimmick with one killer promo when Henry bitterly called out the wrestling fans for not believing in him after he became World Heavyweight Champion. Henry’s career peaked between April 2011 to May 2012, but it was enough for him to earn his spot in the WWE Hall of Fame.
The Best Versions Of These Superstars Is What We Want
Some fans were unhappy that Victoria didn’t get her original entrance. She is also part of the Attitude Era Superstars Pack. But she never got the T.a.t.u. theme in the prior Smackdown games that she appeared in either.
Even if everything isn’t perfect like the fans want, it’s still a big deal to have all these Superstars finally returning to be playable in WWE 2K25. Like Henry said, he was the character players picked if they wanted to beat up the more popular Superstars. And now, he’s back to wipe the floor with John Cena and Rey Mysterio all over again.
