Gearbox Software Drops Special Post About Borderlands 4 PC Requirements

September 10, 2025 by Todd Black

Follow these guidelines…or else.

In today’s gaming age, if you want to play games on PC, you’d better have a PC that can actually handle it. No, that’s not a threat; that’s a warning that developers aren’t afraid to push the PC specs to the limit to get the best performance out of their titles. You know, if the developer actually cares about the PC port at all… Anyway, Borderlands 4 is a title that has plenty going for it, and the hype is building as we get closer to its Friday release. As such, Gearbox Software has made a special blog post detailing what you’re going to need to get the game to work properly on PC.

“For all you Vault Hunters planning to wreak havoc across Kairos on PC, it’s time to make sure your rig is equipped to run Borderlands 4. With the right hardware loadout, you’ll be able to loot, shoot, and ride your Digirunner while taking in all of this vast planet’s deadly beauty.

To help you properly bask in the stunning sights awaiting on Kairos—and fight the Timekeeper with your preferred amount of frames, pixels, and detail—here’s an overview of the specs needed to run the game on various PC setups.”

The good news is that you won’t need the “most high-end computer ever” to get the game to run. However, as you’ll see as you read all the specs on the blog, you’ll need a good one to have “solid performance.” However, it doesn’t state what that means, which is already setting off alarm bells in certain people’s minds.

One thing that’ll catch your eye is that the game requires you to have 100GB available on your SSD. That’s a bit more than the 30GB to run the game that we talked about before, but the answer to that might be within the Day One patch that we all know is coming. Randy Pitchford himself stated that the “Day One patch does a lot,” and that implies that its data consumption will be substantial.

If you’re not sure if your PC matches these requirements, there are some free ways to check things out online to see if it does or doesn’t. If it doesn’t, you have time to make adjustments before the game comes out. However, a simpler way may be to get the game on a console, if you have one, as those games are hardwired to work on the console you play on.

You have until Friday to figure out how you literally want to play it.
