One of the most difficult things for Nintendo Switch 2 gamers right now is waiting for information on the next big titles for the new system. Nintendo revealed several exclusive titles and Switch 2 Editions for the console back in April, but we’ve yet to get release dates for most of them, or even see gameplay for titles like Kirby Air Riders. That title alone was one of the big shockers for the event, as the spinoff series had only seen one title in its history, and that was on the GameCube 20+ years ago. However, we do know that Masahiro Sakurai is working on it once again, and that’s enough to get anyone excited.
That being said, we still don’t know anything outside of that initial reveal trailer for the game, and Sakurai knows that. So, on Twitter, he made a post that celebrated the 20th anniversary of his company, Sora. In it, he said the following via the app’s translation:
“It doesn’t matter to most people, but today, Sora Co., Ltd. is celebrating its 20th anniversary. …That’s a long time! Thank you for your continued support. The new game *Kirby Air Riders* hasn’t even shown gameplay footage yet, but I think we’ll be able to share some information soon. Please wait!”
Trust us, Sakurai, all we’ve been doing is waiting for more information to come on some of these games. The current rumor is that Nintendo is gearing up for a big Direct to happen in September, but, obviously, we don’t have confirmation about that. One of the reasons that people feel this way is that last month we got a Partner Showcase that focused on 3rd party titles exclusively, and by the end of August, there will have been two 1st party drops between an eShop exclusive and a Switch 2 Edition for a different Kirby-starring game.
Thus, the “board will be clear” for something big to drop in September, and most are hoping it’s a Nintendo Direct.
As for Sakurai’s game, many are mainly curious about what he’ll bring to this game to not only capitalize on what the Nintendo Switch 2 offers hardware-wise, but truly evolve the game from what it was on the GameCube. Sakurai is all about pushing things forward and trying new things out, so you can expect something that’ll play much differently from Nintendo’s other big racing franchise.
Hopefully, we’ll get a trailer or a Direct or SOMETHING soon so that we won’t be in a perpetual state of waiting.
