EA Still Firm On Not Developing The Sims 5

August 5, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

They don’t want players to start from scratch.

There is something charming and addictive about cozy-style games. Players can easily spend countless hours in a game that is not about winning or losing. Instead, it’s all about relaxing and enjoying the moment. For ages, The Sims has been one of the more popular games for this experience. However, we’re left in a bit of a stalemate when it comes to getting that next major installment, The Sims 5.

We have known since last year that EA wasn’t keen on bringing out The Sims 5. That was a massive bummer for fans of the franchise. There are more than a few fans who were interested in seeing the next iteration. Each has brought not only a familiar gameplay experience, but an overhaul to some of the mechanics and visuals. Unfortunately, we’re going to be stuck playing The Sims 4 for the foreseeable future.

EA Is Passing On The Sims 5

The Sims 4 is the latest iteration, and support has been going on for over a decade. EA’s president, Laura Miele, recently spoke with Variety, where Laura noted there are no plans for The Sims 5 since the initial announcement came last year. Instead, the reason for this move in the EA president’s mind is that players won’t have to deal with starting from scratch.

With The Sims 4, players have over 85 content packs. That’s a ton of money that players might have spent for them to lose everything if they jumped to The Sims 5. As a result, they are sticking with continued support for The Sims 4 and not resetting players in their community for making the jump to a new installment.

That’s still likely not a sufficient answer for some fans that want that next game. Of course, there’s also something like InZOI as an alternative, a game that developers behind the project claim is not a competitor to the long-running franchise. Meanwhile, for those of you who are fans of The Sims, we also know a movie adaptation is coming out.
