Halo Studios just announced a big change to the Halo Championship Series.
The Big Announcement
They made this statement on the Halo Waypoint blog:
As the studio continues to shift more and more towards the next era of Halo, we feel this is the right time for Official HCS Competition to move on from Halo Infinite. Year 4 will be the final Official HCS events for Halo Infinite, and now’s your last chance to be part of this momentous chapter of Halo esports history.

Is This The End Of Competitive Halo Infinite?
Halo Studios made it clear that they will still support competitive Halo Infinite. It just won’t be under the aegis of the Halo Championship Series. In their words:
Looking forward to 2026, while the studio is fully focused on the future of Halo, you can expect there to still be more online and on LAN competition for Halo Infinite.
We will be supporting events with prizing and player travel, and even Halo 5 and MCC as we’ve done consistently via side events. We know the competitive Halo community just loves to play and compete, so we will still offer some light competition.
Halo Studios went on to commit to events for Halo Infinite, Halo 5, and Halo The Master Chief Collection. They also promised events to commemorate Halo’s 25th anniversary in 2026 as well.
Is There Already A New Halo Competitive Game On The Way?
Halo Studios said this regarding a new game for the Halo Championship Series:
So, when will Official HCS competition return for a new title? While we look forward to the day, it will not be in 2026. As always, we will keep the community up to date with the latest and expect another update from us on that front at some point late next year.
Will Halo Studios Really Stop Holding The Halo Championship Series?
Halo Studios started the Halo Championship Series in 2016, using games like Halo 2 Remake and Halo 3. But they abruptly stopped the series in 2019, to relaunch it in 2021 with Halo Infinite. In the past five years, Halo Infinite has created a longer history with the Halo Championship Series than any other Halo title before it.
Based on their history, Halo Studios would stop holding Halo Championship Series because they seem to hold it in high regard. Since they promised a fresh start last year, they seem to want their competitive players to experience that fresh start alongside the rest of the community.
It’s also possible that Halo Studios will keep their top players busy alpha and beta testing their upcoming Unreal based Halo game or games.
But What About Their Promise?
Halo Studios promised they would be showing ‘what they were working on’ in this year’s Halo Championship Series. If what they are showing is not the next Halo competitive game, what could it be? It’s possible that they will just have another preview of Halo build in Unreal like they did in October 2024.
But Halo Studios could also give those players their invites to join the alphas and betas for their Unreal-based Halo after those championships. That certainly sounds like a fitting reward to their loyal players to me.
