Friday the 13th was a hit horror film from the start. This slasher icon has gone on to star in a variety of films since. However, the IP had been stuck in a bit of a hiatus. That’s finally going to change as we recently learned that not only are we getting a new film, but a new video game as well.
There’s not much we know about either venture right now. This all stems back to a post from Bloody Disgusting. If you didn’t already catch the various headlines, this past weekend, we saw the San Diego Comic-Con kick off. The event showcased multiple movies and TV shows, with some getting a preview or teaser. Included in the various announcements was one that touched on this iconic horror franchise.
Friday the 13th Is Making A Return

Jason Voorhees doesn’t appear in many video games. As mentioned, a video game release achieved some success. It was the typical multiplayer horror game setup that we’ve seen numerous times before. Regardless, it was a hit until some legal issues arose, forcing the developers to part ways with the game.
Now we’re finding out that Horror Inc. Vice President Robbie Barsamian has stated that not only is the IP getting a new film, but also a new video game. Both projects are in early development, and that’s all we have learned so far. Still, the fact that this IP is actively making a return has more than a few fans excited.
What we’re interested in learning is if this game will follow the same overall gameplay experience as the previous installment. Of course, we also saw Hellraiser make a debut announcement. That game garnered quite a bit of attention online, and it’s set up in a different formula. Rather than being a multiplayer gameplay experience, this is a single-player narrative-driven horror game. Perhaps that’s something we’ll see with this upcoming Friday the 13th game. But for now, we’ll have to wait and see who is involved and when we’ll get our first look.
