Nintendo Switch 2 Reviews Not Likely To Happen Until Post-Launch

May 15, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

The Switch 2 will also have a significant day-one patch.

There is quite a bit of excitement for next month. June is typically a big month for the video game industry. We have plenty of notable showcases that pop up. But now we can also add a big console launch, as the Nintendo Switch 2 console will be dropping on June 5, 2025. Today, we’re finding out that most media outlets will not gain access to the hardware for review until after the console releases into the marketplace.

Today, thanks to The Game Business, we’re finding out that several media outlets are being told they are not getting access to the console until it launches. That’s quite frustrating for some of these large outlets, which reportedly talked with the publication. After all, as I mentioned earlier, this console will be dropping into the marketplace during the Summer Game Fest. So, now if you’re working in a media outlet, you’re juggling content and reporting for both the Nintendo Switch 2 and the Summer Game Fest.

However, there are potentially a few reasons why Nintendo is going this route. While it could be that Nintendo feels there is enough hype to warrant consumers seeking the console out, another possibility is its day one patch. As reported by The Game Business, a significant day one patch is coming for the console at launch, and this required patch might make it pointless to send these units out beforehand.

Regardless, we’ll have to wait a little longer for some of these media outlet reviews. Meanwhile, in other related news to the Nintendo Switch 2, we recently had a full spec breakdown of the console, which you can read more about right here. Furthermore, there seems to be some interest in bringing out Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to the console, a brand new RPG that surprised fans this past month.
