Nintendo had a very strong month. We knew earlier this year that April would be filled with Nintendo headlines. That’s because, at the start of this year, it was unveiled that a Nintendo Direct presentation would roll out and focus on the company’s next-generation hardware. During that Switch 2 presentation, we not only saw a breakdown of the console but also some of the software coming to it at launch. Unfortunately, for some fans, we didn’t get the reveal of the next major Mario game installment.
Instead, Nintendo honed in on two other games coming for the platform, which were Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. It’s worth pointing out that Mario Kart World will launch alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 console, while Donkey Kong Bananza will arrive the following month.
So, where was the next major 3D Mario game? Well, it turns out Nintendo is keeping that installment under wraps for now. In a recent CNN report, the publication had the chance to speak with Doug Bowser, the president of Nintendo of America. During their conversation, the topic came up that there wasn’t a reveal of the next mainline Mario game for the Switch 2 console.
Stay tuned. You know, we have a long, long catalog, and a long list of (intellectual property) that I’m sure will make its way to the platform. – Doug Bowser
According to Doug Bowser, we should stay tuned for that announcement. Nintendo has a long line of IPs, and some might get worthwhile revivals. We’ll just have to wait and see what franchises are picked up and brought out for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. However, we can still expect a Mario game to arrive at some point.
In other recent news, the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order dates were finally revealed for those in the United States. Likewise, some retailers are chiming in about the actual launch. For instance, GameStop has confirmed that they are bringing back the midnight launch for the console.
