Considering how insane yesterday was for Nintendo fans, it’s easy to have missed some of the other big announcements that were made throughout the day. The Nintendo Switch 2 dominated news sites for better and for worse, after everyone broke down everything from the Switch 2 Direct, including the games that were shown and weren’t shown, the prices of everything, the game chat features, and more! However, on the official Nintendo of America Twitter, another announcement was made. This time, though, it had to do with Amiibo, ones that were from The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom!
It’s true we had Amiibo announcements during the Direct, but this is different. These are Amiibo of the Four Champions from the newest game, with Tulin, Yunobo, Riju, and Sidon all getting the tap for a new Amiibo figure on June 5th. That’s right, you’ll be able to get these alongside the Nintendo Switch 2! Plus, as you can see in the second tweet, Mineru will also get an Amiibo via her special construct.
So, why bring these Amiibo to bear now? The easy answer is that The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom will soon receive an “Enhanced Edition” for the Switch 2. It’ll allow for better framerates and provide a graphical boost via the Switch 2’s power and processing abilities. Plus, other minor features will be added to the enhanced version.
The second answer is that there’s a new Warriors-style spinoff coming based on this game. One that focuses on Princess Zelda and the “Imprisoning War” that occurred during her time in the past. As such, it makes sense that the “future champions” would get a spotlight when the “past champions” will be viewed once again through this new game. Plus, if history is any indication, these Champions might show up to help save the day. You never know.
Finally, Nintendo and Nintendo fans absolutely love their Amiibo figures. Seriously, ever since these were announced during the Wii U era, they have been incredibly popular. As such, it makes sense that with a new console launch, there are some new figures to check out and get. As noted before, a certain 3rd party publisher is also getting in on this action, and it’s possible we could get even more figures in the near future.
You should stay tuned to everything that’s going on with Nintendo because the news will likely continue to roll.
