Update:
An insider recently stated online after the leak circulated online that the pre-order date might have been an error.
Original Story…
Nintendo fans gathered today for the Nintendo Direct presentation. We knew that nothing regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 would be touched on during this presentation. However, today, a leak emerged online from a credible retailer that unveiled when consumers could pre-order a unit of the new console.
Shortly before the Nintendo Direct presentation emerged online, a post on Reddit revealed that Best Buy’s Canada website revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date. That page has since been removed, but if it proves accurate, we might get to pre-order a unit sooner than later. The date said that consumers can pre-order a unit of the upcoming console on April 2, 2025.
That’s a notable date because it is also the date given for the next Nintendo Direct. Earlier this year, we got the official announcement trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2. While it didn’t go into the finer details about the console, it did confirm that a Direct presentation based on the console would happen on April 2, 2025.
This Nintendo Direct is still planned; again, during today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, they confirmed the date. We have heard plenty of reports in the past that Nintendo was aiming to deliver as many units as possible to worldwide markets to ensure there’s not a massive headache from some consumers having to deal with inflated prices from third-party sellers.
While that page has since been taken down, it might be best to potentially prepare to pre-order the upcoming console right after the Nintendo Direct next week. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see if that does come to fruition, but since we’re just under a week from the Direct, we won’t have to wait very long. Now, here’s hoping we won’t be shocked by how much Nintendo plans to retail their next console!
