Jeff Grubb has made a new revelation about that rumored unannounced God of War project.
Grubb stoked the fires of long running rumors that Santa Monica Studio had set to work on remastering the God of War games, although it was never clear if it was only one or some games, or all of the games prior to the 2018 soft reboot.

Those rumors came and went, as the project didn’t get announced in the last few State of Play events. Last February, Grubb then claimed that the God of War remasters would be announced around the time of the franchise’s anniversary.
Unfortunately for everyone who shared those rumors, Santa Monica Studio went on record that they were not going to announce a new God of War game at the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Instead, they had an art exhibit, and then went on to share some trivia about the game in the past few days since.
Jeff Grubb finally addressed everyone asking about that rumor today. On his bluesky account, Grubb said this:
“OK. Everyone keeps asking about this, so I’ve tried to find out more: There’s still a Greek God of War thing coming out this year, but it’s not a remaster collection. It’s a new side-story project.
I was never told about a Remaster collection, but I asked a source about the rumors (that I saw were focused on a collection) and they told me that nothing God of War would happen at the State of Play but something could show up at the anniversary.”
It’s possible that everyone who were claiming that there would be a remastered God of War game, or a collection of remastered games, saw the title of this alleged side-project, and assumed that it would be a remaster of old games instead of a new project. If so, we should question how they go about getting and sharing these rumors. Having a real source isn’t good enough, if they will only be twisting what little information they can confirm to make up something for attention.
As for why Santa Monica would make a side project, we think we can formulate a good reason for that. It’s possible that they did want to reexamine Kratos’ history in Greece, in light of the man that he became by the time he came to Scandinavia.
We’re certainly curious what kind of game they make out of this, as we don’t think this will necessarily be one that’s full of talking. Getting revisionist on a story that was itself revisionist of Greek and Roman history will certainly be interesting to see.
