Santa Monica Studio has finally shut down rumors about a God Of War announcement coming for its anniversary.

Two weeks ago, we reported on an art exhibit that would be held in California art gallery Nucleus, called God of War 20th Anniversary Exhibition. Rumors started spreading that God of War remasters or collections of remastered games would be announced at this event. Today, we know for sure that that isn’t happening.
Santa Monica Studio made this announcement in relation to the event on Twitter:
“Pantheons collide! We’re so excited to bring a selection of the Greek and Norse cast for this God of War 20th Anniversary panel where we’ll be reflecting on the past two decades of the series.
With such a stellar lineup and all the anticipation we’ve seen around the anniversary, we do want to be clear that there are no planned announcements for this event.
If you’re able to snag a ticket, we’d love to see you at Gallery Nucleus to join the celebration on March 22nd!”
Getting back to the rumor, Jeff Grubb stated at the time that he expected that the announcements for any God of War remasters or collections of remasters would be happening closer to the 20th anniversary. In hindsight, he didn’t declare that it would happen at the art exhibit event itself. He also did not confirm that there would be an announcement from one of his sources. But perhaps some fans read too much into his statement at the time, and maybe he was also perhaps hoping it would be true himself.
It is possible that Santa Monica Studio saw that the rumors were spreading around earlier, but they were still gauging if it got enough attention to warrant a reaction. After all, if only a few fans were sharing the rumor among themselves, it wouldn’t really matter if it was debunked or not. In any case, if you were hoping that these rumors of remasters of the classic games was happening, you will have to keep waiting a little longer.
In our opinion, if God of War fans really want to get these remasters, they should look beyond hyping vaporware and actively campaign Sony and Santa Monica Studio to ask them to make them happen. We know, of course, that Sony hasn’t moved on similar requests for a Bloodborne rerelease or remaster on PlayStation 5 and PC. Still, you won’t be able to wishcast these remasters if Sony wasn’t actually planning to make them. At the very least, the fans should make it clear that the demand does exist.
